Player Discussion "The Real Deal" James Neal

What should we do with James Neal moving forward?

  • Make room for him in the top 6

  • Play him in the bottom 6

  • Buy him out...put the savings to good use (re-sign Bear, AA, Ennis, Nuge etc)

  • PP net front, but very limited minutes 5v5...he will need to accept it

  • Huh, he's "The Real Deal"....dumb poll

  • Trade him for another overpaid player: Ladd, Okposo, Erikkson, Loooch!

  • "Convince" Seattle to take him

With Neal and Chiasson playing the same role, and have the same use on the team, both of them shouldnt play in the lineup at the same time. That is stupid.

While the coach just hates Haas, a guy with a diffrent skillset, and doesnt play more than 9 min a game. Im reeeeeeeeeally curios here, what is it with Chiasson and Neal that Tippet just loves. ANd what is it with Haas, that just makes him ignore him? Haas points/60 should actually be very good (edit: its 1,09 p/60), putting up 5 goals while playing nothing at all....

Haas hasn't done much lately TBH. That said I wouldn't mind seeing him and Ennis on a line together.

Neal is a much better net front presence then Chaisson but Chaisson is the much better PK’r. Both have a use but Neal is getting paid 2 million to much.

To be fair, the entire bottom 6 hasn't done much lately, but Haas is at least reliable in terms of 5v5 play. Our bottom 6 tonight for example in terms of GF/GA at 5v5 per 60 is:

Neal: 2.0/3.2
Chiasson: 1.7/1.5
Khaira: 1.2/3.3
Sheahan: 1.9/3.3
Archibald: 2.3/3.4
AA: 1.6/1.6

Haas: 1.6/1.7

The numbers don't tell the whole story of course, but I'd take a low event reliable 5v5 guy over Khaira any day, especially when the eye test greatly backs up these numbers in that case.

This is the best thing happening for Neal. Now he can heal fully, if he had any issues. McDavid aswell. So hockeywise, this is a very good break for Oilers.

Assuming the season is completed, this is a good break for the Oilers. It would have been nicer if it stopped a game earlier honestly. They looked tired and uninspired for the past few days even though they squeaked in some wins. Drai went cold for 3 games, too.

I don't like the poll options. I want us to keep him, but wherever he lands. He can be in the top six or bottom six.

I don't want him bought out. We have too much dead cap. We should just wait this contract out for once so that we have cap space when we need to re-sign guys like Bouchard, Bear, etc when they get big raises. Three more seasons of Neal. Maybe we can find a trade that sends him to Seattle next offseason.

In the mean time, yes he's overpaid but he's still a very good player. This aint like what Lucic was for us

Yikes. It’s no wonder you see CP be so utterly delusional. Our media guys aren’t the best in the business or anything, but when you read garbage like that all the time, it’s not surprising that you might actually start to believe some of it. Especially when you take away the neutral fanbases calling out the BS like you’d at least get on HF
