Since Canucks' Army is doing a series on all the Canuck prospects, I thought I would reboot this thread and link all the articles. Each has a wealth of information on them for those who typically do not follow prospects.

Heh. Hockeystreams lost the feed right before Virtanen's goal. Cuts from the penalty being called to the kids playing hockey. :(

holy **** Harkins :amazed:

Where is he predicted to go in the draft?

Watching Cougars for the Hitmen and Harkins just scored a beauty.

I love how much he covers the ice with his speed, He's blowing by the right winger whom had a clear lane.

I gotta say Virtanen's defensive game has really improved.

He saved like 3 goals just by back checking hard and breaking up the play.

Yeah. Unbelievable wheels. Full on attack into the O-zone, and then turns on the jets to come back and break up the play. Hard to believe he can skate like that at 205+ lb.

Just because it's "fun" to debate, ISS scouts Matt Grainda and Paul Dionne have put together a list of the Top 10 NHL-drafted prospects:

1. Sam Reinhart, centre, Buffalo Sabres (Kootenay Ice, WHL)
2. Nikolaj Ehlers, wing, Winnipeg Jets (Halifax Mooseheads, QMJHL)
3. William Nylander, wing, Toronto Maple Leafs (Toronto Marlies, AHL)
4. Sam Bennett, centre/wing, Calgary Flames (Kingston Frontenacs, OHL)
5. Max Domi, wing, Arizona Coyotes (London Knights, OHL)
6. Darnell Nurse, defence, Edmonton Oilers (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, OHL)
7. Michael Dal Colle, wing, New York Islanders (Oshawa Generals, OHL)
8. Dylan Larkin, wing, Detroit Red Wings (University of Michigan, NCAA)
9. Kevin Fiala, wing, Nashville Predators (Milwaukee Admirals, AHL)
10. Josh Morrissey, defence, Winnipeg Jets (Kelowna Rockets, WHL)

Honourable mention: Anthony Mantha, wing, Detroit Red Wings (Grand Rapids Griffins, AHL)

Obviously #2 and 3 are central to comparisons with Virtanen.

It looks like blomstrand is doing quite well. Strange that he couldn't display any of this at the ahl level

Re: discussion on the previous thread on what our prospect rankings look like now, I'd have it something like this, assuming Vey and Horvat are graduated :

1. Virtanen
2. McCann - has closed draft gap to Virtanen
3. Demko
4. Kenins - huge riser, obviously. Terrific player.
5. Clendening
6. Baertschi
7. Corrado
8. Gaunce - doing well.
9. Cassels
10. Pedan - good to see encouraging reports.
11. Shinkaruk - needs a major turnaround.
12. Jensen - pretty much toast at this point.
13. Subban
14. Hutton
15. Tryamkin
16. McEneny
17. Zalewski - having nice rebound after terrible start.
18. Friesen
19. McNally - all kinds of talent, but will hit 25 having played only 70 high-level games. Waste.
20. Fox - huge disappointment
21. Pettit
22. Cederholm
23. Grenier
24. Andersson
25. Liberati - doing well, but still probably not worth a contract.

More or less how I'd have it. I'd have Baertschi up a couple of spots while having Cederholm and Grenier in the top 20 over McNally and Fox but otherwise I like. The group has improve over the last couple of seasons.

Hard to call an undrafted FA signing a huge disappointment.

But you do have a unique way of evaluating players/prospects.

He was only undrafted because of off-ice stuff. Was a guy who would probably have been a 3rd rounder and then dominated the OHL ... if Cassels or Subban are middling ECHL players next year, that would be a pretty big disappointment as well.

Just looking at the top half, I'd probably move Jensen down a few. Clendening also seems pretty high, especially compared to Corrado.

More so than Fox, sure, since picks were used on these two.

I actually wouldn't be too surprised to see Subban start, or at least get some games, in the ECHL.

Could be a log jam on D in Utica next season.

Clendening and Corrado are both 2011 draftees. Clendening has outperformed Corrado in the AHL and I've liked his NHL play better as well.

Regardless of where they were picked, Fox coming into the season was probably thought of as a bit worse prospect than Cassels now and a bit better prospect than Subban. Going to the ECHL and scoring at a 40-point pace there has been disappointing.

If Subban goes to the ECHL, I'd expect him to be an elite player there. I think he'll be in the AHL, though. He plays the game with a tempo and compete level that I think will transition well to pro, better than our other defensive prospects.
