The possibility of Laine scoring over 100 points?

Just came up to my mind while I was watching his all 44 goals video third time today. I think it's very possible for him to start scoring over 100 points a season regulary. Maybe prime Laine would reach 130-140p, i think only sky is the limit for this guy.

Honorable mention: Matthews and Mcdavid could also get to 130-140 points if all goes well.

I could see him getting over 100 if all goes right. However, not to be rude to the player or dismissive, but 140 is astronomical. Scoring does not increase linearly with icetime and his game is constructed around scoring goals. He has no where near the playmaking abilities of a player like Henrik Sedin imo, and he managed 110+ season but no where near 140... he also had 83 assists. You might think, "who cares...laine has a much better shot then the Sedins", and you would be right...but then you have to consider this:

What would his stat line have to look like? 75g 65a? I don't think he will ever be a 80-90a type player based on the above, so you're essentially banking on him hitting Brett Hull/selanne single season goal totals... which currently would require him to either become a volume shooter or shoot between 31.5% - 35.7%... probably unlikely for the latter over a full season.

I can see him possibly getting over 100, but 140 is imo a pipe dream. But if you're a peg fan and you like your guy, well I can't hold that against you. I like him too. Like you're whole team actually.... all we have is McDavid ;)

Edit - I guess the point I'm trying to make is that if you look at all of the truly special and historic years. Like Gretzky's 216 and the Mario 199 season, etc... it's guys who put the puck in the net sure, but they all had massive assist totals. Their assist totals were more than players are scoring in total points. That's what it takes to hit the 140-160-180 point range, 2ppg with like 1.5apg....

He’ll score a ton of goals but I don’t see him as a 100 pt player.

Yeah, the 130-140 is super unrealistic. Like I mentioned, only McDavid can touch those numbers.

100 pts isn't crazy as long as he puts together one of those big 60+ goal seasons. Pretty much a copy of Stamkos' 60 goal season is what I would imagine Laine's career year could look like.

I don’t see him ever getting 40 assists honestly. I can’t see him doing it.

Why not? If he plays with Scheifele who is a decent goalscorer he can crack 40 assists (he likely will play with him in the future as Blake Wheeler isn’t going to be on that line for more than 2-3 years even if he’s re-signed). I don’t ever see Laine scoring 60 goals but 40 assists? That should be no problem.

Don't see Laine cracking 100 points unless the league does something to increase scoring that the top 7 or 8 guys usually crack 100

If all goes well prime Laine could have a shot at 100 with prime Scheifele& prime Wheeler on his line.

But don't like to see any predictions way beyond that.

I just don’t see the playmaking skills honestly. I think it’s more likely he gets 60 goals than 40 assists.

Wheeler will be 32 before the next season starts. You have to wonder how many good years he’s got left. I’d say 2-3 years. I don’t see him beating his career high that he just got last season. Doubt he hits 90 ever again. It was a bit of a perfect season for Wheeler. He almost doubled his previous in PP points from 21 to 40 and PP points.

Most forwards do not have career highs in their thirties, he’s a bit of an exception. It will be interesting to see how he fares and what sort of contract Winnipeg gives him.

It's hard to say what he's capable of because he's still pretty raw. As it stands, I wouldn't bet on 100 points from him, as goalscoring wingers typically don't put up those kind of point totals in this era, but I wouldn't be surprised by it either
