Only had time for 1 appearance tonight since I have to save lives in 7 hours. To go along with the real life philly sports theme today, it was incredibly frustrating. At least we had Tiger!

Taking a 2 hit shutout into the 5th inning on 55 pitches, Tainter was humming until he was served a big fat helping of MLB cheese. With 2 outs in the inning, a batter fouled off 7 pitches in a row before bleeding a bloop single over the head of the 3B. The next pitch was a single, now 1st and 2nd with one out. The next pitch? Grounder to 3B, under his glove. The outfielder, charging, failed to pick up the ball causing the runner from first to come all the way around. Then came the yank.

All in all, Tainter fell to 5-3 in this one despite giving up only 1 earned run while striking out 7 over 5.2 innings and allowing 5 hits. Shockingly, it was a 0-0 game at the time, which is pretty par for many of Jainter's starts. In some ironic twist of fate, there is no "Bee" in "bat". Tainter does all he can while his team's offense scuffles along, last in HR, RBI and 3rd to last in average. The leadoff hitter leads the league in steals though, with 11.

The mark of a great pitcher is short term memory loss. Let's see if Tainter can bounce back tomorrow.

The 19 year old showed his poise in his first appearance tonight. After being staked to a 4 run lead in the top half of the first, Tainter breezed through the first 4 innings. However, after not getting the call on a plain as day strike #3 for the first out of the 5th, he walked the leadoff batter. A single followed, then the dreaded 3 run homer. At this point, the score is 4-3 with no one out. How will the youngster react to this adversity?

By striking out the next 2 batters and getting the 3rd pop up to 3rd. Wow. Equally as impressive was the 8 pitch, 8 strike shutdown inning after his offense picked him up by getting 2 runs back in the top half of the following inning. Poise is a beautiful thing. He finished the 6 inning outing by earning his 6th win while striking out 2, allowing 5 hits and one walk. Oh by the way, the Bees are 3-12 in their last 15, with Tainter pitching to 2 of those wins.

In a story that is all too familiar, a 6 inning (77 pitches), 4 H, 2 K, 1 ER, 1 BB line results in a hard luck loss in Tainter's next appearance. That's about where I pack it in tonight, **** off with that.

After a small respite, Tainter trekked out to the bump against the Fresno Grizzlies. After surrendering a leadoff double followed by a single, he wriggled himself out of the 1st inning jam with 2 Ks and a flyout. Smooth sailing after that, as he limited Fresno to 1 hit over the next 5.2 innings. All in all, Tainter struck 7 out over 6.2 shutout innings, walking 1 and allowing 3 hits en route to his 7th win of the season. Of note, Jainter threw a career high 103 pitches in this one.

His next outing featured yet another hard luck loss. Tainter was yanked after 6.1 IP after throwing only 75 pitches. He gave up a 2nd inning 2 run HR and only 3 hits while striking out 2 and walking 1. The Bees lost 2-1, though Tainter was still greeted with applause as he headed off the field. Perhaps the fans knew something we didn't.....?

After tipping his cap, Tainter Jainter was served the most delicious Country Breakfast he could ever imagine....

And just like that, our hero was off, heading to NYC. There's no easier test, after all, then pitching to the formidable Yankees lineup within the confines of New Yankee Stadium. Before taking it all in, his new manager shares a few words with his rising star:

And finally, after the whirlwind of a travel day, Tainter soaked in a moment he'll never forget. His dream, realized. His goals, fulfilled. His career, just beginning....

And how did he fare in his first major league appearance? Breakfast was served. An Aaron Judge double followed 2 quick outs in the 1st, but Tainter fired a fastball by Gary Sanchez to end the frame, his first strikeout. Tainter kept the Bronx Bombers in check before running into trouble in the 7th inning, where a sac fly drove in the Yanks' only run. With adrenaline pumping, but effectively channeled, Tainter threw only 18 balls on 79 pitches across 7 innings, allowing 5 H and 1 ER, earning his first win in the Show.

We can only watch as this next chapter unfolds. Tainter Jainter will make his home debut in our next installment.

Tainter’s humility never ceases to amaze. Even in the face of his big league debut.

Mr. and Mrs. Jainter raised their boy right.

In his one and only outing before an Easter weekend hiatus, Tainter earned the first of many wins in front of his home fans in LA. Improving to 2-0 in two starts, he scattered 6 H over 6 shutout innings, with 2 BB and 4 Ks. He was entrusted with pitching duties in the 7th inning, but surrendered a leadoff HR, capping off his night. Even so, the high powered Angels offense is quite the turnaround from the minors where run support for Tainter was a premium. Now, the Country Breakfast has received 10 runs in support over his first 2 Big League starts and is pitching for a team vying for the division lead.

A successful kid finding his way onto a successful team. This oughta be interesting. See you all early Monday morning.

In what may be his worst professional start, Tainter came up small after his Easter hiatus. In as big of a game as you'll ever see towards the end of June, his first MLB loss surrendered the Angel's hold on 1st place to the Astros. Tainter was hit hard all over the diamond by the righty-heavy Astros lineup in Houston over 5.2 innings of work, giving up 6 H, 2 solo HR, and 4 ER while striking out 3 and walking none.

A bounceback was on the menu for The Country Breakfast, however, and he delivered against a powerful Yankees lineup in New York. Over 7 innings, Tainter gave up 4 hits and a run while striking out 3 en route to a W. Uncharacteristically, Jainter threw 44 balls and 55 strikes, walking 4. His coach took notice:

Will Tainter put it all together tomorrow? How will he adjust to right-handed batters? You know what to do

White can go **** himself. Dude is the Hakstok of MLB.

Focus on Tainter’s 4 hits and 1 ER through 7. Not 4 walks, you negative Nancy.

Through 6.1 shutout innings, Tainter dazzled, as he made a 1st inning solo HR stand for his visiting Angels. Then, the MLB cheese happened. A 2-2, 1 out excuse me inside out bloop hit over the second baseman's head started a run of bull****. In the first pitch of the next at bat, Jainter's catcher literally dropped the ball, allowing the runner on first to waltz to second. On the next pitch, a throwing error pulled 1B off the bag, resulting in a 1st and 3rd situation with 1 out. Despite 4 "executed" pitches in a row, where my timing was perfect, Tainter threw 4 straight balls. With the bases loaded and 1 out, another bleeder over the head of the 3B dropped, allowing the tying run to score via station-to-station baserunning. Tainter was pulled, and his bullpen stranded all inherited runners. All in all, Tainter was not awarded a decision while throwing 6.1 IP, allowing 6 H, 1 ER, while walking 1 and striking out 2. He was pulled with 81 pitches in his last start before the All Star break. Annoying.

Interestingly, Tainter's next appearance came out of the bullpen where he recorded his first career save, garnering the final 11 outs of the game in a 10-4 win. He spun 3 innings of 2 hit ball, allowing a solo HR. What does this mean moving forward?

Well, it means he's pitching out of the bullpen, as his number was called 2 games later with his team up 3-0 against the Royals. Strangely, Tainter took the hill to begin the 3rd inning for his visiting Angels, pitching all the way through the 8th inning. Hansel Robles took the reins in the 9th and promptly surrendered 3 runs before the closer came in to shut the door on a 4-3 Angels victory. This means Tainter, after the dust settled, ended up earning the win out of the bullpen by throwing 6 innings of shutout ball (51 pitches), allowing only 2 hits, walking none, and striking out 2.

In another 2 games, Tainter served in a long relief role again, this time entering in the 5th inning of a 4-2 game. Throwing 3 shutout innings to bridge to Cody Allen who set Derek Law up for the save. Jainter only allowed 1 hit in this one, again against the Royals. In 2 appearances pitching against KC, the Country Breakfast served up only 3 hits across 8 shutout innings.

Will he reclaim his role among the starters? Who knows. One thing is certain: Tainter is gonna ****in produce. Just hand him the baseball.

Well folks, someone get the grits and gravy to put on this roll. The Country Breakfast is DEALING as the Angels' bullpen ace. His new role appears to be a "second starter". Most commonly entering in the 3rd or 4th inning, Tainter bridges to the back end of the bullpen each time his glorious number is called. In the span of 6 games for his Angels- now in 1st place in the division, 1 game ahead of the rival Astros- Tainter earned 3 wins in 3 appearances, each spanning at least 3 shutout innings.

First, Tainter struck out 1 over 3 IP, allowing 3 H and walking 1. His second outing began with a 1st and 3rd situation in the 4th inning with a one run lead. How clutch was Jainter? How bout a double play on his first pitch? Yeeeesh. He continued to the 8th inning, throwing 3 innings and striking out 4 while issuing zero free passes en route to his second win in 2 tries. Finally, he rode 3.2 innings of 1 hit ball to his 6th win of the year and 3rd in 3 tries, striking out 2 and walking none.

Tainter is 6-1 on the season, after roughly 2 months in the majors. He holds a 1.17 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP. For now, we must all take a break from our story as its author is heading to Italy until the 12th of May. Our hero, rest assured, will soon return and our story will continue to unfold.

    Ciao.

Wow...it's been a while. Let's check in on our protagonist

His first outing in a little over a month was an easy peasy 4 inning outing, allowing 2 hits and 1 walk but no runs while striking out 3. The first batter he saw was retired on 3 straight strikes. If everyone remembers, the Angels are using Tainter as an absolute inning eater in middle relief, as it appears they employ the "bullpen game" strategy about twice per week.

Entering a tie game in the 6th with a runner on 2nd and 1 out, Tainter induced a ground ball to the SS to keep the runner at 2nd. With 2 outs now, the next batter lazily flied out to center. With the Angels scoring in the bottom half of the inning, Tainter earned the win while effectively bridging the game to the closer, allowing 1 hit over 3 IP and striking out 1.

The following game, Tainter was called upon again in the 5th inning with his team on the wrong end of a 6-1 score. In a night where nothing went right for the Angels....nothing went right for Jainter. It all started with a player literally missing a tag, because 2K cheese. All in all, Tainter's bump in the road was 2 innings long, walking 2 batters and allowing 4 hits. He was removed from the game with 2 on and 2 out, only with 1 credited ER to his line. However, whatever ****ing scrub came in swiftly allowed a 3 run HR, closing Tainter's line with 4 ER allowed. His ERA ballooned to 1.77 as a result.

    And so it continues....

Sounds like Country Breakfast needs to back hitters off the plate with a little chin music.

When is mister Jainter going to have a little spud? The Angels clearly could use more leadership in the clubhouse. Their top player only cares about the weather for God’s sake! (I hope this isn’t a sensitive question. AFAIK, the young man recovered well from Tainter Jainter Surgery so he could comfortably pitch with his balls lifted off the mound.)
