Oilers fans have always had very distorted views of the values of their own players and those of Eastern Conference teams outside of Canada.

Literally until the second the Larsson trade occurred, Oilers fans were posting that the Oilers would never move Hall for less than an established under-25 1D.

Let's not limit it to just Oilers fans. Between them, Habs, and Leafs threads I wonder if there is just something in the water up there that creates stupid proposals.

Then again, there is this widely held opinion on that board that all Canes players are overhyped garbage because the team can never make the playoffs, and as such we should just shut up and be thankful other teams are even interested in our crap.

I feel like someday we should just return the favor.

And then get Uber pissy when they say no

I remember someone posting something that was very similar to what you typed here. Something about Slavin not being worth a 1st or a 1C but rather some AHLer and a 3rd and in the same breath "Carolina should be honored that (insert team here, think it was Leafs?) considers them a trade partner because they are trash". Then the same poster later on said something about wanting Aho for another 3rd, possibly in another thread.

Why Ron Francis sits on his ass and doesn't take these generous offers I don't know. He should consider it a privilege really that the likes of Toronto and Edmonton would give him the time of day.

Just went and checked that thread out. Wow. Just wow. How did that ever get moved to the main board? Not only are the proposals gutting our team but they can’t even understand why we don’t like the trades. Like “oh here come the canes fans overvaluing all their players again”. f***.

My favourite by far was Russell and a 2nd for Faulk.

Weren't there Canes (and other) fans saying the same about RNH last year?

I don't expect to steal him for peanuts, but I still don't understand why we would give up a top-pairing RHD for a 2C. The value isn't equal and will probably never be equal given that Nuge is now in the "what you see is what you get" stage of his career. Yet Faulk for RNH is regularly referred to as some sort of obvious fair deal for both sides. I don't get it.

Whats funny about this is that, when you read comments from the Oil nation on those threads, Faulk won't bring you RNH. You're talking Hanifin+ to be able to swing that.

That's what I don't get, they act like it's just the most matter of fact thing that a guy who is super well established at the 55-point range, bad at faceoffs, and making $6M is obviously worth AT LEAST someone who will be a key contributor for the next decade. Like that should be obvious to everyone.

I don't know. I don't see Faulk's situation any different than RNH's. Faulk has been inconsistent defensively though out his career, gets paid $6M (actual money), is a UFA in 2 years and isn't scoring, which is where his value lies. RNH averages 21G, 55 points per 82 games throughout his NHL career. Now, we can say he's injured too often, but we once said that about Williams as well.

Canes have had 1 player eclipse 50 points in each of the past 3 seasons. I'm not saying Canes should trade Faulk for RNH, but I can see why the Oilers would not do that trade either.

Faulk's been pretty steady for at least 15 goals a year, this bad season not withstanding.

The last Oiler defenseman to score 15 goals was Sheldon Souray, back when the Canes were a playoff team.

We're a bit spoiled with this guy. Other fanbases will play up his difficult 2018, but this is an asset we should not be selling low. Most teams would freaking love to have a reliable scoring 25 year old RHD.

Again, I'm not saying we should be trading Faulk, devaluing him or insinuating we should sell low. I just said that last year, when RNH was really struggling, there were Canes fans (and other fans) saying some of the exact same things about RNH that fans are saying about Faulk now so their situations are similar in that regard. Other fans were saying it about Eric Staal when he had a couple of bad years even though he's been a consistent 70 point scorer. People called Skinner a cap dump when he was struggling the first year under Peters. It's pretty common on the trade board so I don't see the need to dump on Oiler's fans for it when every fan base, even our own, does it.

I also can see why the Oiler's (fans) wouldn't want to do that trade, particularly after being burned by the last forward for D trade they made.

edit: fixed (points vs. goals for Staal)
