Babcock is widely and rightfully considered to be one of the very best coaches in hockey, and those of you who think differently are foolish.

That's about the size of it. No, I'm not being facetious.

I agree that coaches in the NHL only have a certain amount of time to win before their message gets tuned out, but I just don't see anyone who I would feel comfortable to take over this team. Babcock hasn't been doing a great job lately, but I feel better about this team when he is around.

I also am hoping Babcock's reputation can lure in a high quality FA. I know its never going to happen since Holland thinks players should ask him to join the Wings and take a discount to sign here, but you never know.

I completely agree that he has done a mediocre job this season of coaching the team. Bad lines and taking too long to realize it isn't working.

I gave Kenny three years of incompetence before I truly started to despise Ken Holland as a GM. I will give Babcock atleast two years of bad coaching before I abandon him.

Being the best does not mean you are right for every situation. Those that think differently are foolish.

He's definitely a good coach, but every coach has a shelf life and his may be expiring. The message is only going to resonate with the players for so long before a change may be needed. Great coaches often coach for multiple franchises, so it's not a knock on Babcock- it's just inevitable that a shakeup will be needed at some point. Not saying it's after this season necessarily, but let's be real here- the guys inside the locker room know it's crazy for him to keep the Abby-D-Cleary line together for this long despite its utter ineffectiveness. So the more things like that that occur this season, the greater the potential players to start tuning him out or questioning him.

To be fair, the Wings have lost 12 while only winning 10, so mindfly is batting over .500 this season.

And he's only been wrong about Wings not winning the Cup 4 times since 1955. That's pretty amazing in itself.

You are entirely correct. However, you can't fire the team.

Lighten up on Mindly. He is only negative so he can protect himself from getting emotionally burned when the Wings do let him down. If he never predicts a win, they will never let him down.

I am similar in that regard. Always assume the worst case scenario.

You and mindfly are similar... now that's just crazy talk!

I am a fan of Homer's quote along the lines of "set your goals so low, so low you can never fail." Been trying to pass that nugget o' wisdom on to my kids for years now. :D

A wise man once said, "I found that if you have a goal, that you might not reach it. But if you don't have one, then you are never disappointed. And I gotta tell ya, it feels phenomenal."

Babcock seems to be the 2nd coming of Jesus in nucks fans eyes and among Canadians in general, after he secured gold with team canada at the vancouver olympics...

He's not that good though, he's in the hitchcock mold.. great first few years then the players stop listening

EVERY coach is in that mold. Look, it's great to get some outside perspective on Babcock.

1) Trajectory of the team
2) Coaches like Babs lose their team over time, which explains the trajectory, to a certain level
How exactly do you calculate that in your mind.... what if a team limps through the year, makes it in as an 8 seed and makes a deep playoff run compared with a one seed who gets knocked out first round? How would you judge the "trajectory" of the Caps teams a few years ago. This year is far from over before we determine where it is headed.... and given the table is about to drop off with the cap, I think this organization is in better position that some people think.

Abby and Cleary are making a mockery of the phrase "top-six" again tonight. I get more and more pissed at Babcock every time I see those two fumble a pass or fall down while trying to enter the zone.

Please tell me a coach that would have this team, with the lineup we are putting on the ice every night, in a better position in the standings than Babcock currently does.

Please tell me which one wouldn't have them in the same spot or better? I'm not a psychic, are you?

This team is very much overachieving right now. Face it, we just aren't that talented, even when fully healthy.

I agree. I never asked for babs to be fired. Not sure why that poster posed that question to me. Lol

The coach of the team is the least of my concerns. The roster is the problem.

Yet we got 2 points tonight and are 4-1-1 in the last 6. They don't need to be flashy to win games, as long as they win.

Come on. That is just not true. You act like there are all these other teams with 2 scoring lines full of all stars. We are near the top in talent, on the forward end, when healthy.

Let me put it into easy terms for you to understand.

Ever had a girlfriend that you were crazy about. You're still awesome. She's still hot. But you know, you know that there's no future, for whatever reason.

You can keep her around for someone to bang for awhile, and toss her aside when the next hot tramp makes herself available.

Or you be can be an adult about it, stop wasting everyone's time, and let everyone get on with life

Ah, so you somehow think we're going to be better than last year ...

Last year, when we one a single playoff game ... and when he had Lidstrom instead of Smith and Stuart instead of Lashoff.

You think Sammy instead of Hudler makes up for those losses?

This team is treading water. Not because of injuries.

Once again, today, we were forced to watch Pavel Datsyuk spend the night babysitting his unskilled wingers.

With how many goals scored? Do you think the best formula for the Wings to have success is to handicap our best player?

I would be 100% fine if we won every game 1-0. Wins are what matter in this league; but more times than not we will lose (especially against the better teams in the league) if Pavel cannot create any offense. One way to help put him a position to create offense: surround him with skilled players and wingers that are capable of playing with him.
