And giving a bye to the second round just postpones the problem that will be encountered then.

Suggestion: Have eight teams make the playoffs. Hold a quick poll after the draft and ask the question: Which team wouldn't make the playoffs? It adds some drama before the playoff pool too. And keeps things simple and fair.
