Since the lockout is FINALLY over, and we know that it is likely a 48-game season playing only within your conference, here comes the obligatory 'predict order of finish 1-15 for both conferences' thread. For extra fun, you can predict the matchup in the Cup final and Cup winner.

Still a bit too early to predict: a good 20 signings/trades will change the make up of some teams.

Wow, very detailed! And so quick! :) I think its an overestimate of the Sens' fortunes though.

Yeah, but we have a good idea of the only major trade that is likely (Lu), and minor signings/trades aren't likely to have a significant impact on a team's fortunes. That may change this summer when the buyout period opens.

If for example the Pens acquire Gonchar or another top 4 D, it would be a major acquisition for them.

It depends of the state of the team. Pens are surely looking at NYR right now and are saying: we need to improve.

If Luongo is traded to the Leafs or Florida, I would consider this a major trade only by looking at the return Vancouver gets.

Sure Luongo is a markee player but him going to Toronto/Florida won't make either one a contender.

Major trade doesn't equal impact in standings IMO

I think the Sens will play with a ton of heart this year, and find a way to win, even in the post season.

Alfredsson announces that this will be his last playoff run, and trailing 3-2 in the series, game 6 at home in Ottawa could be his last home game ever. He scores the triple overtime winner as SBP chants his name. He is named the teams 1st star, and the crowd erupts into a "Thank You Alfie!" chant whe he takes the ice.

We lose out to the Stanley Cup champions in 7, and Alfie has no regrets because unless he was traded to the Rangers, he couldn't have faired better.

If the Sens don't have to play against Western teams on the road, it will be a great advantage.. We always struggle on West coast trips

Damn, if only we had Cowen (who was going to break out)... Let's see what happens though, this team never give up

I think they'll finish 1st in the East and 3rd in the division, but hey, nobody has ever complimented me on how good my math is.

I had the sens as the 7th seed last year, was pretty close. Though anything can happen with this team, I'm not overly optimistic when I look at our defense without Cowen... Ill go with 11th or 12th in the east, significant injuries dropping us even lower. Still above the Leafs hopefully.

This year is really difficult to predict because of the shortened schedule. An early losing streak could be too much for even the best teams to overcome.

I'd be very surprised if teams like BOS and NYR didn't make the playoffs, but outside of that I could see just about any teams in the East making it under the right circumstances.

Like someone said, a lot of trades will dictate a lot of different things. With that being said, IF this is Alfredsson's final year, he will be out to play strong hockey with a stronger Turris. We are not that much pieces away from being a strong playoff team, especially if Silfverberg has a solid rookie year.

I'll say this, if we struggles a bit on defense early and Murray makes a move to help out, we'll make the playoffs and surprise a lot of people. 4-5th in the east.

Nice predictions man, we got almost the exact same teams in the west except I still think SJ finds a way to sneak in like they did last year. Still too much talent on that team. And with Phoenix, I don't think Smith will as good as last year and they'll take a hit from losing Whitney who was very important to the team.

For the East, we got the same predictions except Jersey is not making the playoffs. They will miss Parise big time and Kovy+Henrique+Brodeur won't be able to do enough. And why do you have Carolina so low? Not sold on the Staal+Semin additions to a team that didn't miss out by that much last season?

So many things can happen that can have an impact:

1. Burky gone, MSLE want to make the playoffs this year?

I would think so. I watched highlights of the press conference, and they talked something about having to move forward, this will not be a rebuild. Mind you, that could be just lip service.

The only thing I am comfortable calling is that Ottawa will be hard pressed to make the playoffs unless some of the d callups exceed expectations.

I'll go ahead and saying barring anything special the Senators will just miss the playoffs
