Soft cap set at 55% of Revenues so with $2.4 Billion the soft cap in 2004/2005 would be $1.32 Billion for player salaries resulting in a soft cap of $44 Million per team. Payrolls cannot go below $35 million per team. The luxury tax kicks in if league wide salaries exceed 57% of revenues so teams that are above the $44 million cap are charged a $1.25 per $1.00 tax. Any teams over $48 million are charged a $2.00 for $1.00 tax.
High marks for linking the cap numbers directly to league revenue, as opposed to arbitrarily picking out a number that sounds nice "for my team". Has this basic linkage concept been talked about a lot in the CBA negotiations, or have I just missed it? Your per dollar tax is steep; I'd like to think a middle ground could be found between that and what the NHLPA is offering.
Teams cannot sign a UFA or RFA if the first year of the contract puts them over the soft cap.
Not unlike the NBA. Fair enough. It will hamper roster flexibility somewhat, but an OK tradeoff.
UFA reduced to 29 years old.
Check.
Max contract length 5 years.
Rationale?
Guaranteed contracts with buyout option at 110% of contract.
Confused here. As I read this, it is a concession (a huge one) from the owners.
Qualifying offers at 75%
I see. Perhaps this NHLPA concession is in response to the aforementioned ownership concession?
Rookie max capped at $900,000.00 including all bonuses, at a max of 3 years.
Check. I'd shoot for an even lower total.
Arbitration baseball style arbitrator picks either management or player number.
I'd like to make arbitration rights a bit more restrictive, as in limiting each player to 1 or 2 hearings from age 22-29, for example.
Revenue sharing:
20% of Merchandise
10% local TV contracts
40% gate receipts
100% national TV contract
Put into poll divided equally at end of the year
Escrow 7% team revenues, and 7% player salaries. If the tax is not triggered then the money is allocated to players, if tax is triggered money is allocated to teams below the cap.
I like.
Injured Reserve List, players are out for season and salary will not count against cap for season.
How do you ensure that players are not simply "stored away" on IR for the season?
