He’s who i want the leafs to draft with a late pick, but if he keeps tearing it up, he may be drafted too high.

I would say it is unlikely he makes it out of the top 125 at this point, but I don't think he is good enough for a 2nd round pick. Maybe if we acquire a few mid-round picks.

Looks like there will be a major showcase for a bunch of NHL prospects. It looks like it will primarily be OHLers but there will be guys from all over the world coming in. Right now they have 130-140 guys even though it says they can only fit 100 in the arenas. Maybe they are finding more room somewhere else.

Completely started and run by OHL players, who set it up independently of the OHL.

Amazing news and I will certainly watch if possible. Would be cool to make it a permanent thing too, especially for guys who may not have much of an opportunity to showcase themselves because they are not going top 100 or whatever.

I hope TSN or Sportsnet pick this up, it is amazing. Those guys deserve major props for setting this up, I hope some teams step in.

It would benefit the NHL teams to kick in a bit. They get to scout a bunch of guys who they otherwise would not be able to see all in one place and effectively have a Combine for them too.

Canada beats Sweden 8-1 after beating them earlier by a score of 12-1.

Canada is on another level in this tournament right now.

Not having a 1st round pick this year doesn't bother me and honestly shouldn't bother anybody else and there is a couple reasons for that.

#1 this draft couldn't be scouted properly anyway because barely anybody played and those that did were a mess.

#2 they drafted 12 players last year there are to many players as is they they can afford to deal off a few picks.

#3 Unless, you are getting a Matthews, Marner, Mcdavid, Crosby, Ovechkin, Eichel etc, unless you are getting that dude, the guy you know is going to make an impact proven assets are always better than magic beans, because unless you have a top 3, MAYBE top 5 pick, that's what draft picks are some of those magic beans grow into stars but they are magic beans, and when you are a championship contender, and the Leafs are a championship contender you can't be worrying about magic beans you need proven players.

Tampa doesn't have a 1st, 2nd or 4th this year, and didn't have a 1st last year do you think they care? no because they haveColeman, Goodrow and Savard, Pittsburgh is doing the same thing they got Jeff Carter, same thing with the NYI getting Palmeri and Zajac.

There comes a point where you don't deal in magic beans, the Leafs have reached that point Foligno, Rittch, Hutton, Nash they help NOW and that's what matters.

If the Leafs don't pick a single player in 2021 that's fine, the 2021 draft is not important

I really liked Chibrikov in the U18's. He would be amazing to pick up if we can get back into the first round. I also really like Stankoven. Would not mind picking up Roulette either in the second.

I think leafs trade their 2nd round pick for a 3rd and 4th and use those picks to draft one of brent johnson/jake martin and the 4th on kuzmin.

Going to unsticky this thread for the playoff season, and it will return to the top of the board post Stanley Cup playoffs as per request from above.

I don't think we get great value out of a trade down from our late 2nd. I guess it depends on whether there are stupid teams or not. I imagine teams are just going to take the guys who fall to them, and that late 2nd-early 3rd range is one of the better bang-for-buck ranges in this draft as it is. Late 1st is pretty strong as well. Early-mid 2nd is iffy in this draft; they will be drafted in the top 50 but they are more top 75 caliber.

Also not a fan of Jake Martin. He garnered some hype from Scouching because he is strangely good at both stopping and generating rushes (or transitions as Scouching calls it) due to his gap control. Not sure that is enough to get you drafted when you have no offensive ability and are mediocre in pretty much every other area though... Pretty much reminds me of Marincin with less size, reach, and positioning on the cycle. Not sure that is worthy of any selection.

Not sure why this thread was unstickied, but I've started getting back into the draft the last week+ and I've fully updated the NHLe for this season (and last season) for 127 prospects. Here are the guys with over a 10 NHLe on the season:

Firstly, Olen Zellweger.

Who? This is a guy that around February (before I did my latest WHL update) he was in a group that legitimately had me wondering whether they even had a chance at being in my top-90 guys that I'm ranking. He only had a 2.75 NHLe in his D-1 season and he's 5'9, Without any updated numbers, a guy who is "small" and lacked any semblane of production he didn't really scream like someone who would be drafted without some crazy good defensive play or skating. I'm now wondering how I'm going to keep him out of my top-15.

The guy is not only leading all draft eligible defenseman in NHLe, but he has the largest difference year to year of all 127 skaters I tracked. Not only did he crush his season like you want from a DE guy, but the guy came from nowhere to do it. The scouting reports rave about his skating, they talk about his willingness to jump in the play, and they talk about how he ATTACKS in the neutral zone on defense. Did I mention he's also one of the youngest players in the entire draft?

The numbers back it up too:

His rankings are all over the place, but for the most part he's established himself as a late 2nd/early 3rd round pick. I need to watch more, but he's interesting as hell. 8 points in the U-18 don't hurt at all either.

I'm gonna do a bunch more research over the next two months and I'll be posting guys I find to be really interesting. If anyone has any suggestions for underrated guys I should be taking a bigger look at I'd really be interested.

I have him top 50, which could put him in the late 1st round.

Agree that he is underrated due to his size. If he was over 6'0", he'd be top 15 easy.

If Sabres win 1st overall pick

Marner for 1st pick + Cozens/Quinn

Man that would be a pretty crazy move. We get two elite prospects probably both which can play upcoming season and clear 11M of the cap which can be used to add either Hamilton + Coleman type player or maybe 2 Schwartz level players

Gonna need a more lopsided trade if your goal is tank for Shane Wright.
