Realized we haven't opened a new draft thread.
Power, Raty, and Guenther are all candidates to go number one. Power with the edge as of right now in my opinion.

With a name like Power, he better be first overal. His life would be be complete.
Need to get jesper wallstadt
There are much better goalie prospects in 2021 than in 2020. Probably would be a good idea to get another guy.
Wallstadt should go really high, but we should be able to get a guy like Lennox, Gaudreau, Cossa, etc. and they should be better options than Akhtyamov. Plus it gives a guy who can come to the AHL when guys like Woll and Scott are likely ready to move up or move on, where Akhtyamov likely does not come over for like 4 or 5 years.
I don't think Raty is at that level right now.
One of Power, Guenther, or Clarke will go 1st overall. My money is on Power. He's going to be an incredible defenseman once he hits his prime and fills out.
It will be interesting to see how this draft is scouted with all that is going on. I feel like certain teams could really screw themselves while others could come out with legendary crops due to savvy scouting. Or luck.
I also wonder if, it seems like scouting this draft seems like such a crapshoot as the year drags on, if teams use this year to trade picks.
I am kind of happy the Leafs loaded up this year, even if it was a lot of late picks. If the draft truly is tough to scout, at least we filled up the pool this year.
Yeah he’s the favourite right now. Let’s see how well he does at the NCAA level next season.
This draft is loaded with potential high impact defensemen. I would not mind grabbing one of them.
Yep. The draft is normally a bit of a crapshoot (after approx the top ten or so) but this year will be even more so with the shortened or even non existent junior season in North America at least. For those that follow the prospects more closely how does this draft rate in terms of strength say compared to this past year and is it heavier in forwards?..defence men?..goalies?...Thanks in advance...
I don't think Clarke will stay in the running. It's going to likely be between Power, Johnson and Guenther. Although, its very wide open, and someone who isn't in the top 10 or so could emerge like Hischier did in 2017. It's a pretty weak draft at the top similar to how 2017 was viewed, which should make it easier for guys to move up like Hischier, Makar, Heiskanen, and Glass did that year. Although, with so much uncertainty about guys even playing it is very hard to tell what is going to happen (when its already almost impossible in-general). This draft doesn't have a clear cut #1 like some previous drafts who can likely hold his spot such as McDavid, Matthews, Dahlin, or Lafreniere.
Sens fan here. I think you guys may love this draft more as it has more D prospects. It’s going to be interesting to say the least.
1st round pick
Use the 1st at the Trade Deadline
No Power, hm.
Interesting that he has Wallstedt at 3. He must view him and Askarov in a pretty similar light.
Lysell is not a top 10 pick at this point.
There is a legit chance he is not even in the top 3 Swedes in this draft (Edvinsson, Wallstadt, Eklund are all likely better) and depending on your sentiments about Rosen and Olsson, he could even end up outside the top 5 in terms of Swedes by the end of the year.
I've been posting a lot of Bader since/before the draft because I find his model interesting. He did an exercise to test his model between 2009-2018 where he picked in a specific spot each season based on his (imaginary) team improving, didn't take goalies, and never really went positionally unless they were identical rank with lots of F/D taken prior.
He came away with a ~45% rate of 200+ game NHLers also having 6 guys being 100+ GP players (league average is 26% for 200GP+). Of his picks he had a 14% star rate with 5% of guys also trending towards being stars.
Although his model has significant flaws (Lack of C, D, G - definition of stars) it's an extremely interesting read that shows its arguably better than any teams scouting over a 10 year period.
What Could Have Been: A Decade Of Drafting With Hockey Prospecting
The OHL meetings revealed the following today;
SO some questions.
1. Will Scouts be allowed at the games? If not, will all games be taped at multiple angles, for scouts?
2. To what degree, will scouts have a book, on players a year before their draft?
3. Clearly, the Euros are going to have an advantage, and be more scouted here.
I can't recall a draft, with such little hype for it... I know it's a year away, yet from the 2022 crop, Lambert, Savoie, Wright are all pretty big names already, and 2021.... not the same... You never know how prospects emerge though, and as I learn more, I'm liking what I see from Power.
Damn, OHL players will go almost a year between games. Glad we picked players from active leagues.
Not sure OHL players have any other option before the season finally gets going.
Really sucks since a lot of the top goalies are likely coming from the WHL/OHL this year. The QMJHL has nothing unless undersized Swiss-Canadian Noah Patenaude generates some buzz or William Rousseau starts playing (at all, and of course, playing well). Fabio Iacobo is an OA but I think 2020 was his best shot to get drafted barring having an elite season.
Has a Finn ever gone #1 overall? Where all the Germans from the much vaulted DEL?
