As discussed in the fantasy forum thread I created asking about a draft and tournament. Here is the thread that will serve as draft central. Attached to this post is the "draft preview" excel file with all the info and templates you'll need to do the draft. I have PMed everyone involved and apprised them of their draft status and the team info I need. However, just to make sure I cover any typos or mistakes, here is the absolutely correct, verified draft order:

1) Titanium
2) Morrison_rulz
3) ORBluesFan
4) Jozef Balej
5) Gobert
6) RandomCanuckFan
7) The Nemesis (me)
8) Perry91502

The order was done with a three round drawing out of hats. Each participant had their name written on an identical piece of paper and folded up the same way before being placed in the hat. The hat was then shook until one of the pieces fell out. That piece was checked, the name recorded and the lottery continued until the final piece was left in the hat (it didn't need to be taken out since it'd be obvious who was left). Round 1 was done in my Vancouver Giants hat signed by several players from the 05 Top Prospects game. Round 2 was done in my New York Jets hat (I'm not a JEts fan, but my dad got it for me as a souvenier when he went to New York), and Round 3 was done in my Homer Simpson "Alcohol is the cause of and solution to all of life's problems" hat. Each participant then had their placings averaged out and sorted to the draft order. Ties were broken with a best two out of three lottery (same method) involving only those two names. You can see the numerical results in the Draft Preview.

I must insist that each participant downloads a copy of this excel file, because you'll need it to send me your line combos for the tournament.

Full draft instructions can be found on the first sheet of the Preview. My e-mail address (for sending line combos) was PMed to each of you.

Also, it came to my attention when sending the last of my preparation PMs that the lists I sent for the city names and logo choices run together when they are sent. If you need to sort out the items better, you can find a full list in the Draft Preview. Remember, your choices for city, jerseys, and logo cannot overlap with other particpants', and it's first come, first serve. If you send me an invalid choice, I'll PM you back and ask you to change whatever needs to be altered.

I'll post again to open the draft itself (it hasn't started yet), and that will serve as the master draft board. This thread can now be used for draft related questions and comments. If you didn't get your PM or have some problems, either post here, PM me, or e-mail me (use the address I PMed to you. The one that might get the e-mails sent via the board's e-mail system might not be the one I use for message board and public mail.)

I should also mention (in case it got lost in the PM) that my team will be the San Jose Vipers, so the San Jose jerseys, the San Jose city name, and the snake head logo are all no longer available.

1) Is this a one-year league or a keeper league?

2) Is this a reverse draft (ie. 1-8, 8-1, 1-8...)? :dunno:

3) Will we be allowed to trade? :D

4) Cory Sarich is listed as a forward!

Cheers,
Titanium
1) It's a tournament. Done using the World Cup of Hockey mode in NHL 2005. A full season (even 1) would take too long, and I can't run one with just 8 teams. And there aren't enough players in the draft pool to make any more teams. Maybe, if this goes well, I'll do a season in the future, but that would mean that I would have to have 16-30 teams (30 to run an NHL season, less if I used one of the Elite League modes, since I'm pretty sure those leagues have something like 16-20 teams.)

2) Yes it is. Odd numbered rounds go in order from 1-8, even rounds go in reverse order from 8 back to 1.

3) I wanted to allow trades, but since each team will only be able to draft 23 players total, there really isn't the depth to allow for trading (since you would have to swap for players of the same position or risk being short on that position)

4) Oops, I guess I was bound to make a mistake somewhere along the way having to manually enter data for 190+ players. Although I thought that Sarich played forward at some point.

I should mention that all of the rules for the draft, and some basic tournament outlining is done on the first page of the draft preview file. (called "cover")

We should be almost ready to go. I'm just waiting on team info from Morrison_rulz, AnThGrt, and RandomCanuckFan.

I was going to wait for my other draft to wind down a bit more, but that one might be dying out a bit. I haven't seen nor heard from the currently selecting GM in three days, and since he has two picks in a row, he is already down to the last day on the second pick.

One more thing. Since Titanium reminded me that Cory Sarich is indeed a defenceman, I'm going to quickly do some research and add another forward (or two) to the draft pool this afternoon. When I do, I'll repost the draft preview with its updates and clean it up a little bit (since we won't need the create-a-team specs anymore, and the lottery data is somewhat unnecessary.)

Attached to this is version two of the draft preview. It has the new players, and I've removed the draft lottery info. Because I'm still waiting for a reply from AnThGrt and Morrison_rulz on their team properties, I've left the list of options there, but have removed everything that's already been chosen. I'd advise that you replace the original draft preview with this one, because you don't want to miss out on possible draft picks just because your list doesn't have them. The same rules will apply with regards to line combos. Once the draft is over, fill out your line combo sheet and e-mail it to me (either rename the whole preview file and e-mail it, or copy the line combo sheet to another excel file and send that. Just make sure you clearly state that it's for this tournament in the subject line, otherwise I might accidentally delete it. you'll find my e-mail address in the PM I sent you the other day. If you don't have that message anymore, PM me and I'll send it to you again.

Also attached is "draft preview doc" in a zip file. This is the important parts of the draft preview file, placed in a Word document file (.doc, hence the name). I made it for anyone who can't open excel files, but if you have both options open, I highly suggest the excel version.

One other thing. When we get to making lines and submitting them to me, be sure to pick your captain and alternates (2), because that will be something I will want to fix (if I find I can take pictures of the teams to stick in the tournament preview, I'll have a snapshot of the team captain and maybe the goalie in uniform.)

Sounds good... so when are we going to start the draft?
We'll start as soon as I can get confirmation from AnThGrt in teh form of his team info. I've PMed him twice already,so I'll give him another day or so.

Edit: I PMed AnThGrt again, and I issued a deadline: if I don't hear from him by Sunday night, I'll replace him. ORBluesFan PMed me offering to be a replacement GM, complete with team information, so he'll be filling in should AnThGrt be unable to participate. Should this happen, he would inherit the 3rd overall draft spot from AnThGrt. Also, I would reissue the draft preview again with updated GM information.

Ok, tomorrow afternoon (Monday), I'll post the message that will serve as the draft board, and will also commence the draft. AnThGrt failed to meet the deadline to submit his team information, so ORBluesFan is now the 8th GM. Just to refresh your memory, the draft order is:

1) Titanium - London Knights
2) Morrison_rulz - Seattle Scorpions
3) ORBluesFan - St. Louis Stingers
4) Jozef Balej - Portland Olympics
5) Gobert - Vancouver Kings
6) RandomCanuckFan - Winnipeg Jets
7) The Nemesis - San Jose Vipers
8) Perry91502 - Boston Bisons

Even numbered rounds will go in reverse order.

One last thing for tonight. If you want to update the draft board in the draft preview documents so that the third spot belongs to ORBluesFan instead of AnThGrt, here's how:

For Excel:
1) Open the draft preview.xls file.
2) Select the draft board sheet
3) Go to the "tools" menu, highlight "protection" to bring up the sub-menu, and select "unprotect sheet"
4) Go to the "Edit" menu, and select "Replace" (alternatively, you can press ctrl+H to bring up the replace menu. Enter "AnThGrt" in the "find" field, and "ORBluesFan" in the "Replace with" field, then hit "replace all".
5) close the find and replace window, go back to "tools" and in the "protection" sub-menu, click "protect sheet". Press "OK" on hte little menu that pops up (don't bother messing with the options.
6) You're done. The protection options ensure that you can't accidentally delete the draft listings. Oh, of course you have to save the file.

For Word:

1) In the "edit" menu, select "replace"
2) Enter "AnThGrt" in the "Find what" field, and "ORBluesFan" in the "Replace with" field
3) Hit "replace all"
4) Close the find/replace window
5) Save.

So I'll see you all tomorrow afternoon for the beginning, and Titanium, you'll be on the clock when we begin.
