Unless he's diving into old video and questioning his rankings, there is nothing after March 30th to judge these kids on.
That's not stopping anyone else. Most media outlets have been changing their rankings despite no hockey being played. Jake Sanderson, for example, has risen significantly on many lists this month.

It doesn't surprise me. I was talking to an NHL scout, and while we were raving about Drysdale, he told me Sanderson was pretty close.

A lot of people have gained that impression of Sanderson this past month despite no hockey being played. I don't understand it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Sanderson jump up in Button's final rankings.

Well I mean my conversation would have been late Feb/early March when hockey was still on.

My guess is that scouts are now just frantically re-evaluating old tapes because there is no new material. I'm sure he got viewed less than Drysdale.

What's the consensus here on taking Rodion Amirov if he's available?

Unless someone unexpected falls to our pick I'd take him for sure. If think an apt summary of his game is that he is unlikely to be a play driver but could be an elite play supporter. Amirov is a possession monster and a very smart passer that almost always makes the right play. Good shot and quick hands too, along with a very responsible two-way game. He might be a real nice fit next to McDavid in a few years.

I think I've been underrating Seth Jarvis. Focusing too much on the negatives with him. He's another guy that would be an excellent pick if he falls to us.

Oh God, there are so many players I like in our range. >90% chance we're going to be drafting one of my boys this year.

I really like him and have him 18th on my list I personally think he’ll be gone before we picked but if he was available he’d be a good fit here and I think he’s going to translate really well to the North American style of play.

What’s your guys take on Raymond vs Holtz?
I prefer Raymond. Safer pick but very high upside as well. Holtz is a real work in progress defensively, has poor shot selection, and needs to work on his decision making. I've still got him at 8th, but there's a lot he has to improve upon. Raymond has a higher floor in my opinion, and his blend of skating, hands, passing, and shot give him elite potential.

Mind sharing your list at this point?

I Like your take on it, my list is close to being finalized and this is my biggest sticking point, I’ve been placing more of an emphasis on goal scoring the last couple years and that’s what making me consider Holtz above Raymond but is hard to shake first impressions and the first time I seen them both play for the Swedish Hlinka Team I came out more impressed with Raymond and during the WJC I came away with the impression that Holtz was ahead.

Thanks for sharing, I like the list. Nice to see someone else high on Bourque, it seems we're few and far between.

Askarov at 6 stands out to me. I'm not a goalie scout at all. What do you like about him from a technical standpoint?

It all starts with his athleticism, he has very quick reflexes especially his legs. He’s a big guy as well and has very good positioning for his age. I feel like with a good goalie coach he could be one of the best in the league in a long time. The only problem with his game I feel is that he gets a little to busy with his feet a times which is hopefully worked on in the next few years.

Thanks for posting this! If you dont mind I had a few thoughts/questions.

1. Perfetti at 5 above Rossi and Raymond suggests you are a big fan. What are your thoughts when it comes to Perfetti over those 2 guys?

2. I like that you arent in the Quinn and Sanderson hype train. I like both of these guys but I wouldnt grab either in the top 10.

3. What do you like about Guhle? Do you think he has top pairing potential? I see a great athlete but I'm not sure I see a great hockey player.

4. I also started watching a lot of Bourque clips after some of the posters on here pointed him out. I'm happy to see you have him high.

5. Mercer seems a little low. I really like what I saw from this kid. I have him and Bourque close. What do you think is holding Mercer back?

6. I keep flip flopping on Peterka and Reichel. I think Reichel is the safer pick. What put Peterka ahead for you?

7. I dont see William Wallinder on the list. Not a fan?

I was checking out Scouch's rankings and Justin Sourdif's analytics jumped off the page.

The Giants score at more than double the rate with him on the ice vs. with him off of it.

What's the word on him? Good pick with the 3rd? Does he make it that far?

I love Jarvis. I'm fairly confident we pick him. Something about his game screams Oilers to me. Quinn will not fall to us. If Jarvis gets taken, then take Mercer or Foerster

1. Absolutely love Perfetti his Hockey Sense, Hands, and Playmaking are top notch and his shot is pretty good as well. The only thing that makes people hesitant is his skating but I think he’s going to be able to improve on it and even if he doesn’t I don’t think he’ll have a problem adapting to the NHL.

2. I’m sure Sanderson and Quinn will be good players but I’m not buying the top 10 hype.

3. For me I always tend to lean towards guys who are great skaters. He just moves so well and has the size a defender needs to excel in his own end. As far as the offensive side of the game goes I think he’ll be able to improve on what he did this season. I wouldn’t go as far as saying he has top pair potential but I think he can definitely be an anchor on a solid second pair.

4. Bourque is a fantastic player he always seems to have the puck on his stick making plays and he also has a fantastic shot which I don’t think gets enough love.

5. For me I really like Mercer’s motor but outside of that I don’t see a standout skill that in my opinion would take him ahead of the guys above him, I also don’t see him as a centre at the next level.

6.I would also agree Reichel is the safer pick but I just see more potential to produce offence from Peterka.

7. He’d be somewhere in my top 50 but I don’t think he’s going to be able to post enough offence to be seen as anything more then a #4 dman.

He could go anywhere from early second to late third...so much good value in the top 100 this year....Teams like Ottawa in the middle of a rebuild with lots of early picks are in a great spot.
