Is he just not going to play again?

His contract at Salavat became a problem and he was rumored to Sochi but it never happened.

Surely he can still get a job, probably just not at the paycheck he wants.

Zinoviev himself rejected the fact he's retired just 2 days ago, though rumors have been circulating the last month that he's going to become the Kemerovo Oblast hockey federation president.

Has never been the same after Bykov allowed him to play with torn knee ligaments in Vancouver, which is damn shame. One of the smartest players.

He was an exciting player to watch! Great skater and great hands, and he was really adept at finishing on goals. One of his best goals goes all the way back to the 2000 WJC against Canada. He stole a puck behind the goal line and somehow managed to work his way across the crease with the puck, and then launched himself into the air to score what turned out to be the winning goal. You are right - he never recovered from Bykov's decision to have him play with a serious knee injury.
