As has been discussed for a long time, HF is going to migrate from its current vbulletin setup to an updated/upgraded forum running on new software (Xenforo)

The current plan according to site admins is that the migration will occur some time between tomorrow (Sept 26) and Oct 4. It's estimated the board will be down for 8-12 hours during the migration.

What's really important is this information shared by head admin Buffaloed (well, the bolded part because I've covered some of the other stuff already):

HBoards migration to Xenforo software is being planned

Between Sept 26 and October 4

We plan to migrate ALL your content except albums and social groups. The latter is not supported by this software.

It is recommended that you save any content you want to preserve. We make no guarantee what will successfully migrate.

Downtime: TBD (est 8-12hrs)

Please make sure your account here is associated with a working email address. If there is a problem with your password you will need to be able to reset it. Contact [email protected] if you need assistance updating your email address.

What's New:
Fully integrated notifications
Sportsbook & Betting Exchange
Xenforo Media Gallery
Media Pack - improved, simplified media embedding
"Likes" System & Social Media integration

More Info will be provided as it becomes available.

I don't know how many people have content in the galleries feature, but you'll want to save that. What's more important is that you MAKE SURE YOU CAN STILL ACCESS THE E-MAIL ADDRESS TIED TO YOUR ACCOUNT. This will be the address you used when you registered unless you've updated your profile since then.

You can do this by going to this link:

http://hfboards.mandatory.com/profile.php?do=editpassword

entering your current password at the top and then editing just e-mail field in the middle.

Please make sure you're set, because if there's a problem with migrating everyone's passwords to the new board you'll need to be able to reset your password, and without an active e-mail address it may be difficult to do, or cause a big backlog as admins have to manually sort that it if people contact them to fix it.

You may also want to save your avatar because although it's planned to migrate and be present on the new software, it could be lost and need a re-upload. especially if you're still using something I made since photobucket has gone down and I can't easily share that stuff again until I get a new photo hosting option.

Thanks all

I'm not a huge fan of how xenforo forums look but I bet it's easier to use for a lot of things. Not too experienced tbh, but I will be in like a months.

I really hope this changes the way ads work on the forums. I'm kind of curious how most people who aren't sponsors deal with the ads... I haven't seen many threads discussing it.

I literally can't view HFBoards without an ad blocker AND scriptsafe/noscript blocking ALL external resources. It never stops loading more resources, literally thousands of them, until the tab has become so slow and unusable that I have to close it. I don't know if I've ever seen more intrusive ads on a legitimate website.

It's usable with scriptsafe on but I just want to see embedded tweets again. :(

Good call on checking the associated email, mine was connected to an old account for an ISP that hasn't existed for a long time

Mine was connected to an old Gmail address that I didn't know I had. I finally got in and I apparently only used it to join HF in 2009.

I'm now hearing that it might be too late. User info may have been migrated already and changing your e-mail on this end could be fruitless.

Sorry about that.

It might also be that we're all able to log into the new board after the migration just fine with no password issues and this warning is pointless.

So I would recommend that once the changeover occurs, if you can't log in and you don't get any emails about fixing your password, wait for an announcement about how to proceed rather than registering a new account. It's extra work if the admins have to merge a new account into an old one and I'm sure there will be some kind of contingency to deal with this issue.

With that in mind I'm also going to close the thread because I honestly can't answer any other questions about the process, I don't know a whole lot more than you guys.

So we're back. And it looks like most passwords appear to be working. However, I have seen indications that some people are having trouble. And since not everyone will have updated their email address to be able to use the "reset password" option, there has to be a workaround. I'm in the process of asking about what we should be directing people to do. I will post it here when I get an answer.

Also for the time being don't bother asking me questions about the new board setup. I have no idea what I'm doing either  It took me a few minutes just to figure out how to post again in this thread.

Gonna need theme options. I can imagine opening this in the dark and getting blinded by the light.
