I blimped out when I came here, so I needed to lose weight. I ate salmon almost every day for around 14 months and was constantly hungry, so any mention of food triggers my sadness. But then I got food poisoning the first day of this semester, and even though it wasn't from salmon, ever since then I can barely stomach the idea of eating salmon, so I don't know what I am going to do now. Without it, my decision-making when it comes to food is already starting to go to hell.

This all sounds horrible. Don't do that to yourself. Please eat more, dude.

I have been, and I feel awful lol. My weight hasn't ballooned or anything, I am holding steady within a few pounds of where I was, but I just have to be careful not to let it spiral, because it so will. I am my own worst enemy, or rather my body is. It doesn't help that I am looking to leave here, so I have all these thoughts and stuff clouding my concentration.

Coming from someone who had to have his thyroid removed, I get it and know what it's like to have crazy weight fluctuations in both directions. But I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you.

I gained like 10 pounds when I was in Cambodia for a month last year. Rice and/or noodles three times a day, plus access to surprisingly decent pizza and European food, (for reference, there's nothing in Hawaii) and beer that was pretty damn good, especially at around $0.25 each. Just go on a snake and tarantula diet and the pounds will shed right off.

I’m just rather confused why you only had/have to eat salmon/fish, Cap’n. Maybe 2-3 times a week or something, but what about chicken or a variety of other things (do they have ground turkey there? Lean cuts of beef, etc), provided they’re prepared healthily and the portions are managed? Surely there’s wiggle room, and eating doesn’t have to be a terrible, monotonous experience, especially as you hit your target weight. I also remember you saying you only eat one enormous meal a day, which I was under the impression was very not good for you.

THE MENU has taken a strange turn....

No no, I was just joking about the sadness - I am as phlegmatic as you when it comes to the weight and just roll my eyes at myself

My body just responds awesomely to salmon - I know it works, and I do best when I am in a routine/rut, so I just kept it going - it kept me organized and steady. I was totally fine until I got sick and in the few weeks since I just can't stand the salmon. The one big meal was because I was having the protein shakes the other times during the day and I was totally on cruise control. Part of it is finding the right routine for shopping so I have the food available and don't make rash decisions when hungry, but the fish goes off pretty fast, so it is a pretty constant thing, the shopping.

The best way to avoid that would be thinking "If I undo my progress now, I ate all that f***ing salmon for nothing..."

My go to meal a few times a week sirloin steak sautéed in Carmelized onions, baked potato and side salad. Chicken or steak fajitas works well also :thumbu:

you did not get a Georgian feast?
dinner-2_762x330.jpg

Yeah, the restaurants were great, and the guest house was cool, fresh apricots from a tree in the garden for breakfast.
The best meal I had was when we drove to the border with Chechnya (this was in 1999, before the fireworks), and stopped at a place by the side of the road on the way back, ate on picnic tables.
There was also a nice Russian restaurant in Tbilisi, where I got to have real borscht, not the ersatz stuff I ate as a kid (mother's father was a Jewish Ukrainian Kulak who had to flee the Communists, mother's mother was in Moscow during the Revolution).
Weird thing is Georgians all look alike, jet black hair, etc. So being blonde they all thought I was German.

Yerevan was a different story, lousy food except for one hidden restaurant that only the expatriates knew about to avoid the local mafia, the hotel was former Soviet hostel which struggled to match a Motel 6. Turns out the problem was that all the good chefs had emigrated to Sacramento (big Armenian population).

U can't talk about breakfast without cream dried beef over anything (toast, eggs ,home fries)

P.s. This thread is going to send captn Dave into a food rage
Interesting, I've never heard it called cream dried beef. Always referred to it as creamed chipped beef or shit on a shingle. I'm more of a corned beef hash man myself though.
