Dr. Dzingel's Stickhandling School.

Zinger has no finish tho.

His stick-handling may not be elite level, but he has shown a lot of patients with the puck to let the play develop, make a slick pass, or open up a better opportunity to shoot.

Stick-handling and being patient with the puck is 2 different things. YouTube his highlights and you will see what I am talking about exactly. I also like how he waits an extra second or two before shooting, when up and tight close to the net, out waiting the goalie.

Anderson - Hogberg/Gustavsson
- IMO Anderson could be gone at the end of his contract, Ottawa will need to find a #1 goalie soon.

I would be shocked if Anderson is here past the end of his contract. The plan is clearly for Gustavsson to be ready to take over as the number one goaltender for opening night 2020, with him getting some spot starts next year to start getting him ready. I suppose it is possible that Anderson comes back for one more year in a mentoring role in 2020, but I think it's more likely he retires...

I hope your right but he is only 20 yrs old & would be around 23 yrs old at that point, not sure he would be ready for the NHL but I hope so, Ottawa will need a #1 goalie soon especially if Anderson has another off yr next season.

The kids are doing great & they should continue to replace some of the UFA vets with younger & better players over the next two yrs.

UFAs - Wideman RD, Carey C/LW, Pyatt LW/RW, Paajarvi LW & maybe Dzingel LW/RW
Replace - Jaros RD, Paul C/LW, Batherson RW, Tkachuk LW & maybe Chlapik C/LW
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next yr trade: Pageau C, Condon G & maybe Smith C/LW, Tierny C/LW, Boedker LW & Boro LD
Replace - Brown C, Hogberg G & maybe Balcers LW & Gagne RW/Nurmi RW
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Duchene - Brown- Stone - if Duchene doesn't stay Boedker likely would.
Balcers - Chlapik - Ryan
Tkachuk - White - Batherson
Formenton - Paul - Gagne/Nurmi

Chabot - DeMello
Lajoie - Ceci - (JBD)
Wolanin - Jaros/Harpur

Anderson - Hogberg/Gustavsson
- IMO Anderson could be gone at the end of his contract, Ottawa will need to find a #1 goalie soon.

I would retain Dzingle but Pyatt, Paajarvi, Carey, Paul, Wideman and Smith can go.

Let's give Paul a chance, that is if this coach will ever play him. I don't understand how this coach does not see that the kids are so much better than the vets he keeps playing. The UFAs for sure have to go but since Smith has a contract for a few more yrs he will be more difficult to move. I'd keep Dzingel too.

people who say Dzingle has no finish, has that impression because of his lack of finish on breakaways. But, he can actually finish - Goal against Colorado is a prime example! Not many in the league can score that kind of goal, with that tight up-close, elevating the puck with so little room to shoot

With how awful we are defensively, it may be worthwhile to insulate some of our prospects from that disaster.

We still have to put individual player development first. This is a rebuild, it's not about the wins as much as it making sure that our core-to-be-kids are being shelter when they need it, and given ice time when the deserve it. The vets serve as minute fodder, leadership on the ice, buffers for criticism from fans, and to teach the kids how to be pros off the ice. Our top vets also help drive the offence and get the kids scoring.

People are also super critical of GB but his number one job right now is development of the kids, so expect to see vets taking the heat and the rookies being insulated. Also expect him to focus on positive in pre and post game interviews because his other job is to keep the kids focused, keep their spirits up, and serve as buffer for criticism between the team and the media/fans.

We have clamoured for a rebuild for years and now we have one (regardless of the underlying financial reasons) the kids on the ice need to be able to go through the rebuild, hopefully with matching support and expectations from the fanbase, at least the ones that still support the team and enjoy the game on the ice.

You are absolutely right with all of this. Its rare that I agree with you, but if this really is a "true rebuild", then everything you say here makes perfect sense. The unfortunate part is that being a fan of a team during a rebuild can be extremely frustrating. With that being said, a very important aspect of the growth of young hockey players is winning, and IMO, playing a Batherson/Chlapik/Balcers line over Pyatt/McCormick/Paajarvi gives the team a better chance at winning everyday, also helps the pocket book as these players cost less.

With all that being said, this isn't a true rebuild. Its cost cutting disguised as a rebuild.

Having a better offence is the best defense you can have. If these guys can possess the puck, they are already better than Pyatt, McCormick and Paajarvi.

Easier said than done at the NHL level.

We all expected to suck this year and give Colorado a top 10 pick, that we had a semi-decent start to the year shouldn't change that. This team is going nowhere fast and we are likely going to be losing both Stone and Duchene so there will be plenty of opportunity in the near future.

It's nice to enjoy a rare agreement Chezzz :)

It's still a rebuild, no matter what the reason though. The timing is perfect financially for EM, but it is also a good time for the team composition to tear it down in my opinion. If it wasn't this year it would be in a few years for sure as we seemed to be stuck in the middle zone.

Clearly now is best for EM, and for the arena deal he's involved in, but that doesn't make it any less 'real' of a rebuild, just the timing may have been a bit premature, or artificial. It would seem that that ramping up of being competitive and the player budget increasing may coincide with the team playing in the new arena. At least that seems like the plan to me, he needs money now, and there should be more money to work with then.
