I appreciate his videos, but that ranking is a big YIKES.

Criticizes Byfield for only using his size for puck protection and primarily scoring off the rush then puts two small forwards who score primarily off the rush or on the PP ahead of him.

And don't even get me started on Raymond being outside the top 10 haha.

I like his vids and knowing his top 10, I still didn’t expect this lol. I know people will criticize it but who knows. I am sure if ppl had Petterson first or Makar/Heiskane 1/2 people would say they were dumb too.

Bob Stauffer said today on OilersNow that he wouldn't draft Yaroslav Askarov at 14th. Interesting.

I guess that closes the book on Askarov to Edmonton. Great. Typical stupidity of the Oilers
Yes because Its great to draft a goalie and wait around 5 to 7 years for that netminder to be a solid NHL goalie and expect 97 and 29 to chill out in mediocrity till then.

good move. f*** drafting a goalie in the first round.

Yeah because it took 5-7 years for Hart, Vasilevsky, Samsonov, Varlamov and Mason to become NHL goaltenders right? Think before you text please? Also, why are you swearing? Did my post anger you? :skeptic:

not a single goalie you mentioned were projected to go as high as Askarov is
who's the last high-drafted goalie to make in impact within a couple years?

Samsonov didn't play a single NHL game until his draft +5 season and has yet to prove himself as a starter. While Varlamov played earlier he didn't establish himself as a starter until his draft +6 season. Vasilevski, a much better prospect than Askarov, played games earlier but again not a starter until draft +5 season. Carter Hart is pretty much the exception when it comes to goalies.

These guys take time, much more so than forwards especially. Defensemen can be somewhat of a wash I guess but the Oilers shouldn't target a d-man anyway so it's moot. Wouldn't you much rather draft another Yamamoto? Meaning, a guy who is a top6 forward in his draft +3 season, rather than wait for a guy who may or may not be a starting goalie 5-6 years down the road?

Yeah that is true. I'd rather take Jarvis, Quinn or Holloway

I didn't listen to the show today but I'm not surprised. He's been all about Lundell, Jarvis and Guhle.
If he does indeed have any intel on which way the Oilers are leaning, you better hope that Guhle is taken before 14 or Jarvis is there at 14. I actually think he mentioned Holloway a while back as well so another name to keep an eye out for, he seems to fit the Holland/Wright profile of big and fast with high character.

Guerin seems to be wheeling and dealing in Minnesota. If that trend continues up to the draft would you offer Puljujarvi and the #14th pick to Minnesota to move up to #9 and do you think Guerin would make that deal?

Wright keeps saying that we will get a good player at 14. I really dont think we move this pick.

It sounds like Wright will take the best player available regardless of position.

Say what???? Askarov as a prospect > Vasilevskiy as a prospect, and it’s not close. That’s not to say their trajectory will be equal or the same, but Askarov is more highly touted without question.

Yeah Askarov is going to be a good one. Too bad the Oilers aren't in the best spot window wise to draft him.

In the media? Sure. But as an actual prospect? No, absolutely not. Remember Vasi was drafted only a year after Kucherov was drafted late in the 2nd round. This was the height of the Russian/KHL scare, and he was still taken in the 1st round, as a goalie. That should tell you something.

I agree. Feels like Askarov might be getting more hype, but I don't think he has the resume to be getting more hype than Vasi.

Been seeing way to much Holloway smoke lately

Which is fine, if Jarvis and Quinn are taken. Just stay away from Guhle and Lundell. Not because they are bad, but because we need a scoring winger and neither of them are that.
