Found this little ditty by Herbert Leiser from way back in Ought Eight

Johhny Canuck : march song

It looks like this ancient website's proprietors were making an effort to archive BC Music like this found at the Library of Congress. Stamp shows its from 1907 though and not 1908.

Great scans of the original and a clean rewrite to PDF

The website has the music embedded which does not appear to work anymore for modern browsers. But here it is in midi form which I was able to grab.

The lyrics are awesome. It's about a Johnny Canuck going off to war I think. However, there hadn't been a war Canada fought in since the 2nd Boer war that ended in 1900 and WWI was still 7 years away so I'm not sure about Herb's timing.

Nevertheless, I think these lyrics could easily be adapted for our favourite team. I could hear a Glee Club or even the organist playing it.

Bravely the team is forming, Clearly the organ tells,
See how the crowd is shouting, To bid the 'Nucks do well

Johnny Canuck, I wish you luck, When you are far away;
Johnny Canuck, You have the puck, Now keep the foe at bay

etc.

I'm not a music guy but the sheet music says it is a march and the chorus seems to have the repetitive stomp. I'd like to hear it on piano rather than the midi to see how its meant to sound.
