He’ll never be an impact player but will probably eek out a career due to his size, draft position and the fact he does so some things well. This is pretty common for where he was picked.Logan Stanley is a 100% sure bust tho.
His defensive ability is his biggest liability. He’s not agile enough for todays NHL so he tends to back in and surrender easy zone entries to avoid being turnstiled. He has a big shot and is pretty good at getting it through traffic. He’s actually a pretty good passer, and if he can get his reads up to NHL speed he could be a good enough puck mover.Stanley will not be a bust. He's a defensive dman. He's not expected to be a puck moving dman.

well said. pick #18 (and lower, for the most part) historically has 20% (or less) chance of becoming a top 6F or top 4D since 1990. if he's a serviceable bottom pairing Dman, is that a bust relative to his draft position? I don't really think so. Perhaps it's a bust if people think every 1st round pick is supposed to become a great top 6F or top 2 pairing DmanHis defensive ability is his biggest liability. Overall he isn’t without talent, but also has some major flaws and should not have been a first round pick. I doubt he’ll be more than a journeyman NHL player. That isn’t really a bust for pick in the late teens, but there were better players available. Personally I wanted Cholowski at that spot.
What does Atlanta have to do with this?
The 2011 draft position is the only connection to the old team.
On the list the op posted, out of a list of nine players, you’ll find 4 (four) top ten picks; 7, 9, 9, 2 (lottery win).Probably because they... wait for it... drafted in the top 10 a lot.
Too early to judge Stanley and Roslovic. Morrissey is a top pairing defenseman, on the jets shutdown pair. Maybe we’ll agree to disagree what constitutes a ‘home run’.Stanley, Morrissey, and Roslovic are hardly home runs. Laine, Scheifele, Ehlers, Trouba are top 10 picks. They've done a better job than most I guess.
Will you identify these 15-20 teams? This is a fine way to think, but it also makes the fact that WPG hasn't drafted any "busts" even less impressive and less threadworthy.
In that definition there are 15-20 teams that also don't have any first round busts since 2011.
Who has had the most 1st round busts?
Ok I mean by that logic, Vegas hasn't drafted a bust with any of their picks in any round because they all still have a chance to be NHL players.
Yeah, so half... which proves my point. A lot of the others that weren't top 10 picks wouldn't be in a redraft...On the list the op posted, out of a list of nine players, you’ll find 4 (four) top ten picks; 7, 9, 9, 2 (lottery win).
nope, 1st round has been good to the Oilersedmonton gives em a good run. yak, paajarvi, sam gagner, Poolparty?

And, you know, all the players that were still on the team from the year before. Hell, Byfuglien and Little are still on your team.
You don't get to wipe the slate clean just because the team moved to a new city and changed their name. It's still the same organization and those failures in Atlanta are part of it. Own up to it.

Ok I disagree with that.
New owners, new management, new city.
The owner didn’t control what happpened in Atlanta. Whoever started this thread was talking about the Wpg Jets which for the 2.0 version is the 2011-12 season and 2011 draft and forward.
Buff wasn’t drafted by the team in Atlanta so I don’t know why you are pointing at him.
Atlanta didn't draft him but they traded for him, and he's still on your team.
Lots of teams change owners and management. Should we then ignore all of their history too?

Picks in the 7-9 range are still pretty close to a coin toss as to whether you get a really good player or not. At that point in the draft you are looking at ~20% bust, ~30% bottom6/bottom pair ~50% top6/top4.On the list the op posted, out of a list of nine players, you’ll find 4 (four) top ten picks; 7, 9, 9, 2 (lottery win).
"Shutdown pair" is misleading. Morrissey/Trouba are the Jets top D pair, full stop. The Jets obviously also have Buff who could be a top pair D-man, but he’s used as a second pair PP specialist. Both Morrissey and Trouba out-produced him at 5v5 while drawing the oppositions top lines. Unless you are picking in the top 2-3, that’s a home run.Morrissey is a top pairing defenseman, on the jets shutdown pair. Maybe we’ll agree to disagree what constitutes a ‘home run’.
