In 2018 they had no first round picks, which obviously signals their imminent demise.

Would have been a better OP if you added a list of the players they drafted, most people don't wanna go look it up if they don't know.

Stanley is a TBD, he was pick selection #18, if he ends up being a serviceable bottom pairing guy that's not terrible considering where he was selected and far from a bust

Bottom pairing would be a bit disappointing for a 18th OA pick. I will say the Jets immediately said he would be a long term project.....stated 3-4-5 year development plan. Clearly they were knowingly rolling the dice on him hoping to get lucky in the long term.

Ok I mean by that logic, Vegas hasn't drafted a bust with any of their picks in any round because they all still have a chance to be NHL players.
how do you deduct this from that post?

look at the history of pick #18, then consider he is only 20 years old (which is really young for Dmen) and had roughly half a year of development stalled due to a torn meniscus. I didn't even say he's not a bust, i said it's TBD since he hasn't had a chance to showcase what he is at the pro-level yet (or if he even makes it - which he is still super young for Dman). But given where he was drafted, if he's a bottom pairing Dman that's not terrible given his draft position.

As for VGK, if a player from rounds 2 and lower dont make the NHL dont think they should be considered a bust, they were long shots to make the NHL from the get-go.... If Cody Glass doesn't make the NHL being a 6th overall pick in 2017 id say that's a bust. It's relative to where they were taken.

difference between disappointing vs bust.

I was disappointed in the pick, however if he does make the NHL in some capacity I don't think that should be considered a bust. From accounts i've read, people were pleasently surprised the strides he made and had a good showing at Jets camp this offseason

i consider guys like Grifin Reinhart a bust.... top 5 pick and cant make a roster. Stanley wasn't as highly touted and was taken later in the draft when you don't really expect to unearth a super-star as you would if you had a top selection. Look at a guy like Joel Armia, was picked 16th overall and was considered a surefire sniper, has carved out his career as a 3rd-4th line PK/Def specialist tweener. is he a disappointment, or a bust?

Not that impressive considering it was mostly top 15 picks or the 2015 draft which was really deep and most 1st round (and even some second round) prospects have already made it to the NHL. Too early to say Roslovic and Vesalainen are not busts as well. Columbus probably thought Dano was not a bust after his first year playing as well but as he started more games he became waiver fodder and throw-ins. You need to see more before you can make that judgement.

I believe the intention is for Stanley to be ready to go as Byfuglien is entering his last ~2 seasons under contract. I know they don't play the same side but as a functional "big" presence in the back-end, plus he should be able to pair with Myers at some point too if he re-signs.

Ideally Stanley plays a full season or two in the AHL with spotted call-ups. If Stanley plays ~10-20 NHL games in the next season or two, then becomes a full-time guy after that, it is an ideal progression.

Their GM was a huge bust as a player, so he has the uncanny ability to spot and avoid them.
