I am having fun watching people eat crow about Jarmo after his big TDL gamble. I loved what he did that day to declare that Columbus was now in the Big Boy's Club and that we were not going to wait another four years for a few more first round picks to develop. It was a gutsy move. It was also gutsy to call up some young French teenager to be a starter in the playoffs. He has made move after move and 90% of them have worked. I have little doubt that he will be recognized as NHL Executive of the year.

Ahh, didn't even know this thread existed. Firing JK isn't in the mix either. Our annual garbage threads. There is even less to get on JK about than Torts.

With St Louis now in the Stanley cup finals , I just wanted to revive this beautiful thread . Jarmo , one would think , is probably pretty proud to see his former team in the finals .

I would say this is a Torts issue, not Jarmo. But that’s just my opinion.

Either of you care to explain?

Something deeper than, "Jarmo is drafting and bringing in skill guys and Torts doesn't know how and/or cant utilize their offensive ability", along with the same stuff over and over about the same guys (Bjork/Milano/Karlsson/etc) supposedly not getting enough ice time or Foligno/Jenner/Dubinsky getting too much.

Here it is:

Jarmo and Janne were in a Kuopio burger joint, along with Janne’s then-girlfriend, in the early 1990s. Two other young men, clearly intoxicated, were getting loud and disruptive, taunting the staff, terrorizing other customers and causing a scene.
“It started to get pretty bad, like something had to happen,” Janne said. “I put my arm across my girlfriend and made sure we kind of stayed back, stayed out of the way. That was my decision.
“Jarmo … it just welled up in him, this rage, like he just couldn’t accept that this could happen. Everybody else was kind of hoping these guys would just stop, go away, but Jarmo went right in front of everybody and went right after them. Both of them.”
Jarmo grabbed one of them by the back of the pants and the back of the shirt, yanked him backward, dragged him past a few tables and threw him down the long flight of stairs that led to the street.
When the man stood up at the bottom of the steps, he pulled a knife out of his sweatshirt and started heading back upstairs. Jarmo confronted him again.
“Jarmo grabbed him around the throat, put him up against the wall, and screamed something right into his face,” Janne Kekalainen said.
According to Jarmo: “I kept my poker face and said, ‘Get the f*** out now, while you still have an opportunity.'”

If Jarmo had no morals, he would be a GREAT hit man. He reminds me of Ben Affleck's character in The Accountant.

DSL and I talked it over and agreed that the only reasonable course of action was to enforce an Everyone Must Agree With Viqsi policy.

Whether or not our current GM should keep his job is still topical for a thread pertaining to said GM.

Having been slightly positive about Jarmo & JD, I now find myself tending negative. This team is in shambles with little hope for improvement in the near future other than Jackets' fans predicting great careers for Tex, Bemstrom, et al. So far the promising goalie roster is not so hot. Other than PLD I see no other young guy getting better or even staying the same.

I believe the go all in at the TDL was an organizational decision, which in hindsight, was completely effin stupid imo. The one playoff series win will go down in Jackets' lore next to the 16 game winning streak which cost a higher draft position and contrary to all the people who though it would build momentum for the following season led to an 0-8 beginning.

Robin Lehner should have been signed. Jarmo will get another shot if Chicago doesn't re-up him.

I don't know. To me the only hope for a mid-season turnaround is to fire Torts and hope the new guy can solve the offense, the pp and goalie woes. Don't think this will happen but something needs to change.

To add onto that, I was looking through Jarmos recent draft picks... and they really aren’t that great for a “draft wizard” Keep in mind we have had 8 first round picks, 7 second round, 7 third round picks since he came here. 2013/14 were especially bad. BRING ON THE HATE!
