My understanding is Oates has developed a niche as a personal skills coach and is well compensated for it. Unsure why he'd want to give that up.
I think our posters with reliable inside info have said Tocchet is for sure the guy. With Elliotte Friedman and Darren Dreger also chiming in, I'd be absolutley shocked if he's not the guy. I think it's done and Tocchet is the new HC.
let's go for the trifecta:
nelson--head coach
keefe--assistant coach (offense & pp)
eakins--assistant coach (defense & pk) and lead caterer :p
That link didn't work for me.

Great interview, I still really would've preferred Nelson I think.
Dude. I really hope Tocchet had the same ideas as Nelson because wow.

Me too. On the bright side this means Tocchet beat him, so he must have been amazing...... I hope.
I'm not super enthusiastic about a guy that appears to have had his PP coaching taken away from him because he wasn't any good at it. I think Tocchet is really weak at a few things the head coach should be the smartest guy in the room about.
As long as the HC (Tocchet in this case) surrounds himself with people who can balance his weakness' and is willing to yield to them, he needn't be the smartest guy.
Gonchar as D and PK coach? He's on the Pens staff but won't get a bench job as long as Martin is in role.Since it looks like Tocchet is getting the job, and the last time he did, he called Adam Oates, and since Oates is currently available, I would not be the least bit surprised to see Tocchet as HC and Oates as AC in charge of PP and Fs. Oates is supposedly as PP coaching wizard, so I'll take it. He does goofy **** as an HC but I think he'd be a fine AC. Anyway, I like Tocchet better as the boss than as a specialist. I think he could be a better HC than he was an AC. I think Tocchet as HC and Oates as AC is 2/3 of a fine staff.
Eakins and Nelson are both former D. So there could be the missing piece of either are interested. Personally, I'd be thrilled to have Nelson be the other AC.
