The Montreal Canadiens had a difficult season in 2017-18, and go into the off-season looking to address weaknesses and improve for next year. The Habs obviously have a huge hole at the centre position that they need to fill. However, this is not the only area that needs to be addressed. If you look at the Habs defence, there is talent in the system, but this talent is disproportionality distributed. The Habs top two defenceman play on the right side. Looking at their top prospects, even if we include the 19-year-old who made the team out of training camp, only one of their top five defence prospects is a left-handed shot. This position also desperately needs to be filled during the off-season for the Habs to bounce back next season.

Like to get a left d-man who Weber doesn't have to carry for a change. One that will enhance him

We need to restructure the team entirely. Our team looks like one where a bunch of guys just put their sticks in the middle and the GM blindly picked sticks...and voila...our team.

Patching has not worked for us for the past 25 years. While there's no guarantee we can rebuild and contend via the draft, I just don't see how else we can fill these big holes. I know it's painful not see our team in the PO's contending but the next couple of drafts are very promising.

Forget about Tavares or some high profile player coming here with open arms or proposing trades where we give scraps for other teams better assets, because in the real world, it won't happen.

It's a painful process but to get a top center or top D will have to be via the draft.

They can probably address the top pairing LHD more easily and cheaply (in terms of assets being moved to get one) than it will take to fix their problem at center.
