Savard and Foligno are the 2nd and 3rd best players on the market. The thought of one of them not fetching a lot is laughable.

I bet the Jackets could get two firsts for them (separately) given the uncertainty of the draft this year if they want them.

Welp. One down. ;)

Foligno is being held out tonight with an "injury" although he could play if it was a playoff game. I wonder if this is just a nice way of saying he's being held out for trade protection.

Why isnt Jones available?

Are CBJ really confident he will resign? He will probably get offers from several contenders next year when he is UFA and I would think Jones will consider them.

This season CBJ wont be making the playoffs and next year is also questionable with their forward core. They might get in, but they wont be one of the main contenders on paper. Jones value will be worth less next year. So unless CBJ for some reason is certain he will resign they should look for a trade. During Jones remaining contract with Columbus it doesn't look like a time they will contend.

Blue Jackets taking calls on multiple players — The Fourth Period

Important Quote:

"The Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Islanders and Colorado Avalanche are among the teams believed to be interested in Foligno, while the Boston Bruins are considered a team eyeing Merzlikins due to the uncertainty surrounding Tuukka Rask’s health and future with the organization.
Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen is believed to be asking for a solid package for Savard, though it’s unclear if any team would be willing to part with a first-round pick as part of a deal for him.
The same can be said about Foligno, who may not generate a major return, but with Columbus falling down the standings lately – despite winning 4-2 Tuesday night over the Tampa Bay Lightning, they remain five points out of a playoff spot – the team seems to be willing to sell of its pending free agents."

The deadline finally heating up!
There are only three periods.

I believe he publicly stated he wanted to.

To Toronto:

Laine (50% Retained)

To Columbus:

Amirov, Mikheyev, Kerfoot, Conditional 2nd (first if Laine re-signs).

Leafs then flip Laine's rights in the summer.

Who says yes; who says no?

Sure where's Toronto coming up with the cap space to sign Laine long term? And just about every team out there can beat this offer for Laine. Sorry didn't see that Laine gets flipped this summer.

1. If Laine is traded retaining is a given. Unless you are the owner of Columbus, retention is irrelevant. They're not planning to spend to the cap between now and Monday.

2. Kerfoot is good. He'd be a serviceable third line centre for Columbus.

3. Would you prefer this return to Laine refusing to re-sign? Can Columbus do better in the summer?

Why would Columbus trade Laine now especially with retention. Laine will not be traded now. Maybe over the summer.

Kerfoot is not needed on the CBJ. They have enough 2/3 centers. They need top six centers and playing Kerfoot there would be no different than it is today which is failing.

If Laine doesn't want to sign long term he can be traded when that time comes.

If you want a forward the CBJ have one for you. It's not Patrik.

We have zero use for Kerfoot...boone is better, Roslovic is better.. he is a non starter

Why isnt Jones available?
Because we're not preemptively assuming the core is doomed, nor are we preemptively assuming that we have little or no chance of keeping him? And besides, nobody's willing to pay the rate we'd want for him?

Seriously, I get really tired of this "vultures circling core players" thing. It's disrespectful and offensive.

2. Kerfoot
Arguments irrelevant; he's not welcome here regardless.

If you need an explanation, I hereby refer you to a post of mine from earlier in the week about the Kerfoot issue:
Kerfoot is not of interest for a number of reasons:
1) He's not top-6 capable, so that doesn't solve any problems here
2) We have no desire to downgrade further at C
3) His contract extends an extra year into that period where we'll be trying to retain Jones, Werenski, Laine, one of the goaltenders, and a few others
4) We're just way too f***ing tired of seeing his name over and over and over and over and over and

So no. :)
