Another one man rush after turning it over at the blue line.

Comets (LIND) turns it over in the neutral zone and Witkowski pots an unassisted goal. A pure **** pass into the middle directly to Witkowski.

SHG for the Crunch.

2-1 Syracuse.

Comets give it up to Katchouk coming out of the box and he is stopped as Camper tied him up from behind. Nonchalant Rafferty was totally unaware of Kat coming out of the box as he pushed the puck ahead and Kat roared right by him a took the puck towards the net. Camper caught up with him as Rafferty was skating in mud trying to catch up.

2nd mercifully ends with the Crunch on top 2-1.

Something you very rarely hear are now resonating through this building boo birds. That should tell you how poorly the Comets looked over the last few minutes of this period. They were just terrible.

SOG 11-8 Syracuse

2-period total 21-20 Utica.

The Comets have a period to get their heads out of their asses and equal the work level of the Crunch. Way too many passengers out there tonight.

Starting to wonder if the long grind of a pro hockey season is starting to take its toll on Rafferty....obviously going through a tough stretch with turnovers and blown coverages.

But of the course that's the hurdle that most NCAC players have to overcome in their first pro season.......82 games versus 35-or so, and the wear and tear on the body, along with the travel.

The "bottom feeder" Binghamton Crunch have moves into the final playoff spot and trail the Comets by only 3 points. They currently lead Rochester 2-1 after 2 in Rochester.

The Devils are 26-9 over the past 35 games and have currently won 9 of the last 10.

That "bottom Feeder" quote is aimed at the poster who declared them to be such when several of us here in Utica warned the readers on this site that Binghamton was on the move and would be challenging the Comets at some point in this season. Well here they are!

Syracuse is only 6 points back of the Comets. A loss by the Comets to the Crunch tonight and ANOTHER win by the Devils would create quite a challenge for the Comets to hold on. They have played well lately winning 6 of the last 7. Yet they got nowhere as their rivals have been winning as well. Thus, they are in a spot where a single loss can mean a cluster **** ensues.

Crunch all over the puck and the Comets have no answer.

Camper all set in front and the puck just slid by him with no gaolie to stop him.

Katchouk scores all alone in front of the net.

Put this one in the books with 3:21 to gfo. Cull looking to get Mikey bto the bench and that will likely become more for the Crunch. There he goes.

Comets give it away in the neutral zone and a D-man makes a save.
Comets can't get across center ice! 1:30 of ice time!

Crunch ice it with 1:15 to go. Comets shot total in the 3rd to the moment - 7.

TO - Cull

30 seconds to go and the Comets have yet to get a shot on goal in the 3+ minutes Mikey has been on the bench. Not one shot on net all the way to the end.

That's it. Comets lose 3-1

pathetic effort

Di Pietro prevented that from being a 7-1 game

Why these guys decide to play dead at home is beyond me. The last time they stunk up the ice was also at home.
The only loss in the previous 7 games before tonight was the horrendous performance they put forth vs Laval at home on 2/5. You panned that one pretty good.

Now they do it again. A lackluster performance if I've ever seen one. However, it was done the way teams consistently beat the Comets. They dogged them every inch of the ice. Rafferty, Lind, Jasek, Stevens, Bailey, Sautner, and Hamilton to mention the obvious ones were unable to do anything positive under that pressure and turned over pucks like it was a carnival game of 3 turnovers for a buck. Boucher, Camper, and Goldobin got chances, but couldn't actually muster more than a couple serious threats. All 6 members of the D-corps found themselves running around in their own zone and just throwing pucks every which way and that usually wasn't to one of their own. The forwards method of dealing with Crunch players flying up the ice was to wave a stick at them with the their backs turned as the guy just blew by them on the opposite side of their stick sweep. Guys beat 2,3 , and even more Comets all by themselves in the Comets zone before shooting or passing to someone else who was unattended.

As you say, it was the Mikey show once again. All of this and he only gave up 2 goals. Witkowski, not for a minute known as a finesse hockey player, went from the neutral zone with the puck Lind just passed right to him, and beat yet a couple more Comets on his way to the goal mouth.

Yan's goal was a pathetic attempt by Eliot to get rid of a puck under pressure near the corner to Petgrave skating away from him behind the net only to have the pass intercepted by Sompi who jumped in between the 2 and tried a wrap around that ended up being a platter pass to Yan cruising through the crease. None of Stevens, Perron, nor Stevenson picked up the man cutting through the crease, normally the center's job when the D are both absent. We have seen Camper execute that role often, but I don't recall a lot of that type of D from any other center.

JC, that damned "bottom feeding" Binghamton just won their 27th game of their last 36 and the 1oth of their last 11. This time a 5-2 win over 2nd place Rochester in Rochester. They now trail Utica by one point for third place. With their win tonight, Syracuse is only 4 points behind the Comets and pesky Laval just won't go away either as they also won and trail the Crunch by a point. The Comets are hanging on by their finger nails. Performances like tonight will haunt them all summer if they have a couple more of these throwaway games before the end. They only have 15 more to go. 1st place Belleville is in town on Friday and then it's right on the bus to Springfield, Massachusetts. Nothing will be easy between now and the last game of those 15 games.

While this team has had some unbelievable individual performances, I'll put my money on the Devs, Crunch and even Laval before the Comets.

No wonder boos started cascading down...a pathetic effort.

Unorganized, clueless the last 3 minutes of game magnified.

Some "home ice advantage" here.

People are understanding this too, there were simply droves of empty seats.

Starting to wonder if last night would be the final game in Utica with people or if the NHL Ahl will go the way of the NBA and suspend season.

NCAA Utica College game will have no people in the stands.

Abysmal effort by the. Comets. Crunch just completely took over after the first period.

The comets play a soft game and the crunch started throwing some big hits the comets disappeared... The crunch were at a playoff level of hockey with hard hitting and suffocating defense. The comets had zero pushback and zero answers.....

The AHL season now shut down, along with the NHL. It hurts, but hockey is the least of mankind's worries right now.
