Scientifics aside, once everyone has been offered a vaccine, covid fatigue is going to set in and governments are going to be forced to open up. At that point, everyone will have done everything they could do, and people will choose to live again, virus or no virus. My guess is we see this shift take place this summer.

Sars-Cov-2 is not going to be eradicated by vaccination, even if we achieved 100% human vaccination as there are too many potential animal reservoir to hide in and pop back out once mutated enough.

However, its impact can be reduced to something similar to the flu if vaccination is high enough.

From the article you are supposed to have read:
Despite this uncertainty, most scientists have accepted an unfortunate truth: The coronavirus will likely be part of our lives forever, though the pandemic phase will eventually end. Our best hope is for it to turn into a mild, flu-like illness rather than a deadlier, long-term threat.

Been saying this for months...the key is not eradication, it's mediation. Once it can be controlled and not overwhelm the hospitals, we should see life going back to business as usual.

I do hope though that the population continues to embrace mask-wearing when you feel sick. It's just common decency to your fellow neighbors.

Anyone who thinks this is about eradication hasn't been paying attention. Once the vaccines (hopefully) reduce the death rate (especially in the over 70 age range) things are going to normalize.

The death rate among the very old is fairly irrelevant as long as the healthcare system isn't overwhelmed by the situation.

It's not irrelevant. Those death counts are the driving factor in public perception. Once the death numbers drop below a certain level, the willingness of the public to have their lives and livelihoods severely impacted by lockdowns is going to drop as well.

But the vaccines are going to impact hospitalizations too. They will lower the severity of illness in general...
