Merritton Centennials

Came on here hoping to see reference to some of the promising young hockey players who were with the Merritton Centennials, and found nothing. Drat.

^^^ Nevermind IMLACH Jukka. The Merritton Centennials were a Junior Club from the St.Catharines Ontario area. Provincial Jr A, B, C or D <> I have no idea. May even have just been a Bantam or Midget Rep Team for all I know & I believe sponsored by the local Lions Club or some such. Rather obscure to say the least.

A very minor but noteworthy correction: if Google Translate is accurate, your summary of the 1920 Olympics says that the games were played with 5 skaters (no rovers). There were definitely rovers involved in those games -- it became a problem because the rink in Antwerp was so narrow that the rovers had to play back as third defensemen. If they moved up ice to join the forwards, the ice would get too congested for the extra skater to be of any use.

Their lack of usefulness during these Games was just another argument for removing rovers altogether.

Indeed. 184 x 59 feet basically. 6 vs 6 skates, crowded for sure.

Hello Theokritos and Tarheelhockey!

No, I have meant in both Finnish and English summaries, that there were six players Altogether (meaning five plus goalie) on the ice after Antwerp olympic tournament 1920.

But have I to shape the expressions, thank you!

I have got a new stack of information about the international and national history of Finnish hockey.

Of course it's not flawless, but my chances of helping those interested ones has improved.
