An investing simulator would be a great start. Investopedia has a great one. One of my favorite sites (commonly in my numerous 30+ tabs).

Mutual funds mostly. The key is to diversify.

Growth and income mutual fund (60%) American Funds Investment Company of America is a great one


Emerging market/agressive mutal fund 10%

Tech fund 10%

5% Utilities

5% Bonds

5% Metals

5% hookers

If I'm a college student, how should I start investing?


Study penny stocks. Much like professional wrestling, their outcome (in terms of movement either upwards or downwards) is predetermined. There are puppetmasters at the helm, moving these things according to some extreme, long-term plan. And these guys put cheat codes amongst the transactions. Study them. Understand them. With a few years of study, you'll be able to outsmart the Hedge Funds and turn a few hundred dollars into several million.
