The Buffalo Sabres: Worst team since....?

I do like the trades Regier has made to get some picks last couple years. But have to strongly suggest that he should be removed at the seasons end. New GM Needs time to assess draft needs, talent available, build scouting staff, and implement the plan.

And it is too early to say that the recent drafts 2010-2013 are good or bad. It's just too early. 2009 and prior.....not good enough.

Don't you think that the new scouting staff, which was implemented AFTER 2009, should be given the chance to see if what they have done will be successful? If it's too early to assess the recent drafts, then why would we get rid of our management team who are working with an entirely new scouting staff? Regier isn't really the one making the drafting decisions here, Devine and his team are.

Well, for one, the Sabres draft record for the last 15 years has been terrible. And of late their evaluation of pro talent has been horrible as well. You are kidding yourself if you think it is a good idea to allow the person in charge who created this mess, to fix it.

Yes I agree at this point the best long term solution is a complete rebuild with an eye on getting a potential superstars McDavid in 2015. I would just prefer to have a new GM and supporting staff in place to make those decisions.

Why does it matter who the GM is when Devine runs the drafts anyway? I'm sure Darcy has final say, but he's also likely deferring to Devine over staying completely on the pulse of every prospect out there.

Their drafting has been much better since Devine took over.

Another thing on Devine: he's probably going to be the next GM of this team knowing how they operate. Personally I think it'd be an inspired choice.

As for it mattering who the GM is when the Sabres make these picks, keep in mind that both the Penguins and Blackhawks fired their GMs after selecting their superstar. It's likely a very overrated thing to worry about anyway because the talent at the top of the draft is often cant-miss.

At least it won't be like how the Royals and Pirates in baseball are/were...y'know, being a joke/laughingstock of the league and a glorified AAA farm team for the real big league teams for 20 years (I know the pirates made the playoffs this year, chillllll)

Sabres now on pace for 41 points, which would put them firmly out of the discussion of worst all time, but still easily the worst since the 06 lockout.

After a brief pause to slurp Ted Nolan's milkshake, this thread is relevant again.

On pace for 37 points, or 27 points in the pre-shootout era (see OP).

Honestly now that Vanek is gone and Miller will follow. I think this team is worse than the Sabres mid to late 80s squads before we drafted Mogilny and Turgeon.

That's the key.....those bad teams ALLOWED the Sabres to draft
Mogilny / Turgeon. I am enjoying watching the younger players
And can't wait for the draft.

Turgeon (#1 overall), yes. In Mogilyn's case, their terribleness was irrelevant, as he was drafted in the 5th round due to being locked behind the iron curtain. The following year, Sergei Fedorov was drafted in the 4th round and Pavel Bure in the 6th. Theoretically, Buffalo could have had all three for a 3rd and two 5ths. :naughty:

Thats the worst part, they're not even enjoyable losses.

According to your data we're heading straight for the record books...in a bad way

We already have 20 losses in only 26 games.

In 2011-12, Vancouver and St. Louis each had only 22 losses for the entire 82 game season.

The 1992-93 Sharks. Going a bit back. I wasn't alive to go all the way back to 74-75 on the Capitals. Sometimes things have to be ugly before they turn around.

It's an absolute disgrace what Pegula has done to this franchise, yet most of you think he's a great owner because he flaunts his wealth. Proof is in the pudding.:thumbd:

If "flaunting his wealth" means investing it in the Buffalo Sabres, then sure. Curse his black soul for spending money on the organization and Buffalo hockey both on and off the ice.

The team was stuck in no man's land when he bought the team. His mistake was not recognizing that and trying to win right away.

The team needed to hit bottom before it reaches the top but agreed about Pegula, no matter how you try to spin it, what he has done with the team is horrendous. We aren't just bad, we are all time record bad. Harbor center is great and all but what he has done half a mile down the road at FNC is nothing short of a catastrophe. What angers me the most about this year is the lack of goals/entertaining games. I don't mind losing a lot if we are competitive, scoring/giving up a lot of goals but for 3 out of every 4 games we are scoring a goal or less! Pathetic.
