Well.....it's getting on toward the Dog Days. Posters on this forum are snipping at each other a little more than usual, we are deep into ranking prospects, and there just isn't much hockey going on.

We all know that Brandon Dubinsky had a terrible lousy season. It was not money well spent. Plus the CBJ are committed to 5.8 more for the next couple years.

So the question is; "What would it take for Brandon Dubinsky to redeem himself TO YOU, in 208-2019?"

Maybe it would take 30 goals and 60 points over 78 games to make you happy. Maybe you would only be happy if he got traded even up for Connor McJesus. Maybe nothing will ever wash the taste of Dubi's last season from your mouth. So....what does Dubinsky's success look like to you? What is acceptable?

Note: In case you haven't picked up on it yet....this is an opinion question. Old Guy harbor's zero expectation of gaining anything close to consensus on this question. Discuss.

Considering he’s pegged as a 4th liner this season, I’d be cool with 20-25 points and a faceoff winning percentage above 53%. Still not worth the money, but a 4C with that kind of production would be nice.

However I’m fully prepared for him to fall apart and not even score double digit points.

I've commented on this in a few other threads, but again for posterity's sake:

I would be very happy with Dubinsky if he was healthy and in the lineup most of the season (75-80 games played), was a force on the PK (ie we're back closer to the 82% from 16-17, or higher), and puts up 25-30 points. I think he can do more than that if given a chance by injuries, but I don't see him getting much in the way of offensive zone starts or PP time (naturally). Depending on his linemates, Milano/Duclair/JD all have some or a lot of skill in their games, so there's a chance he could get more scoring chances with them than he would with Calvert/Sedlak/Letestu last season.

tldr: if he's healthy and bringing it every night, he'll make a positive impact in a smaller role. He's not going to play over PLD/Wennberg/Nash, so I think being a really good 4th line energy player and PKer would be win for us.

Per the thread title, I don't know what to "expect." But I know that's just semantics.

I think we'll know if we're getting what the team needs from Dubi. An engaged player who uses his veteran voice to help lead (whether or not he wears a letter) will show if he's over all the mess that was last season, and whether whatever-all was going on behind the scenes last year has been put to bed by the coach, FO and players. Those things are hard to read, and we're not likely to get a full telling of his 2017-18 season, but it was certainly bumpy. Anyway, if he can do the above intangible things, hopefully that translates to some production commensurate with his ice time. I don't like saying "30 points or bust" or something like that, but yeah like what Finn said above.

I expect that he will be really awful again in his last season before his inevitable buyout.

His "leadership" is a stale false narrative. If he's "leading", then I hope nobody's following.

That is certainly possible, although I hope that's not what happens, but I could see it for sure.

If this is jumping off the language I used in my post, perhaps "leading" is a bad choice of words. But I've already done semantics, so nevermind.

    I expect 25-35 pts

    50%+ in the dot(career avg is 52)

Lots of PK and crucial draws

    Anything else is a bonus.

I don't know if I expect his but as a 4th line C I'll take it. If he plays up in the lineup a bit hopefully he hits the 35 point range.

He'll move up and down in the lineup I'm sure. The team has been most successful when all 4 lines are able to be rolled out in almost any situation. If he can stay healthy he'll get plenty of opportunities. He's still Torts go to guy on the dot so until someone usurps him, he's gonna be the go to guy when they need to win a draw.

I missed this post when I was writing mine above. This line right here. Skip everything I posted about estimated points and leadership and getting over last season and just this.

Bad contract. I think he is a pro and will play hard, just not an effective player any longer.
I think he will get opportunities to play up a line or two, especially early on.

To say the least. Three more seasons (including this one) at $5.85M and a NMC.

To play hard is an expectation. To slide as much as he did last year was not.

Is double his output from last season (6-10-16 in 62 games) too much to expect? I don't think so, but it depends on the nature of his slump, I suppose.

I would be happy if he said that he is not playing up to his contract and renegotiates for league minimum.

I expect him to produce slightly more than last year, but to put that in perspective it will likely equate to about $4M less than he's being paid.

My hope is I'm wrong and he exceeds my forecast. My more realistic hope is that our top 3 centers stay healthy and in the line-up, thus not having to rely on Dubi to play other than 4th line/PK duty.

Couldn't renegotiate if he wanted to.

Really doubt that he wants to:laugh:

Realistically, there's little chance he has the kind of season that justifies his contract. That said, I'd settle for 11 goals, 20 assists, and solid work on the PK, while playing at least 70 games.

Better, though the stats won't be great because he won't get as much ice time with top scorers.

    Gets bought out regardless.

If it’s what he expects from the player...

He doesn’t have to be happy about it. I think there’s a lot of ‘hope for’ instead of ‘expect’ in this thread, my posts included. But I explained that I don’t really have expectations.

Yeah more of what I want than what I think will happen. But I know you know that. Not sure why I just wasted electrons for that. What about the electrons for future generations that I am wasting. THINK ABOUT THE CHILDREN!!
