The next contracts awarded to Matthews, Nylander and Marner will have a profound inpact on our teams success going forward. Let's talk about it.

Point Pace (assuming 82 game season):
Matthews - 51g 97p
Marner - 13g 56p
Nylander 9g 56p

Clearly production of Nylander and Marner below expectations, and Matthews above expectations. If this persists, we can expect friendlier contracts for Nylander/Marner, despite being a little concerning.

Nylander/Marner comparables
Pasta - 6.66m
Drai - 8.5m

Matthews Comparables
McDavid - 12.5
Eichel - 10m

While Matthews is playing himself towards a McDavid contract, if Nylander/Marner continue this production, we may be able to lock them up CHEAP.

I would use Ehlers as a comparable as well considering he was drafted just after Nylander. Ehlers signed a 7 x 6 mil

I always assumed long term deals for Marner/Nylander at 7 million or so based on big years this year but if they score about the same as last season (about 60 points each) then we might be able to get them closer to 6 million.

Assuming Matthews continues to dominate and scores 80+ points, he'll probably get that 12-13m

Marner and Nylander maybe a 6-7 years at 6-6.5 mil

Matthews is going to get 11-12 especially if get hits PPG or above.

Nylander - the Elhers and Pasta have helped set the baseline for his next deal, though he will certainly be more proven then either of them were when get signed their deals. He'll get anywhere in the 6-7.5ish range.

Marner - too early to tell. His agent likely doesn't consider signing a deal until the latter half of the 18/19 season at the earliest.

Matthews - $10,340,000 x 8
Marner - $6,000,000 x 7/8
Nylander - $6,000,000 x 7/8
________________
Sell Matthews on the idea that if he is paid too much, he will have nobody to play with, and wont win
(look at McDavid in EDM)

Also Matthews >> Eichel, but Eichel is way over paid

The sell should be to all three not just Matthews. Marner and Nylander have to want to keep band together just as much as Matthews

24 million for the 3.

Matty 10-11 x 8
Willy. 6.5. X 6-8
Marner. 6. X 7-8.

Pure guesses but Willy might sign for shorter term. If he wanted more money than pasta he can’t ask with lower stats. He may take less years to try to cash in on third contract

I don't see Marner making more than 4 mil a season, Willy and Matthews are going to cost us.

Hoping Matthews will agree to Eickel money but what is scary (good) is that he has closed the gap on McDavid.

If you give Marner 6 mil a season, Conor Brown is licking his lips and will to be asking for 8 mil a season ... just keeping it real and ignoring the hype :thumbu:

sure I don't think they are franchise guys either. They are/will be elite NHL players though IMO

I wasn't being serious, just having fun with labels. I guess my attempt at humour missed the mark, oh well, not the first time it's happened.

yah ofc. nylander is an rfa after this season while the other 2 are still under contract for another year. management will focus on a new nylander contract over a possible matthews/marner extension

I think Marner and Nylander will do better than their current projections, I expect both to be around 6.5

Matthews is probably is gonna get 12 if he ends up around 9o pts
