Supposedly, the ASG will be in Miami in 2021. StL this year. The previous years were SJ, Tampa, LA, Nashville. I'd say in 2022 they might be due to come to the Northeast. Maybe at a new arena....
Miami or Sunrise in 2021?

MTA panel approves funds for LIRR projects at Belmont, Penn

By Alfonso A. Castillo[email protected] @alfonsoreportsUpdated January 21, 2020 7:57 PM (EST)

An MTA committee on Tuesday approved a pair of contracts that will help shape the future of two key Long Island Rail Road stations.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s LIRR committee voted in favor of a $65 million contract for the design and construction of a new Elmont station at the site of the planned Belmont Park Arena. It also approved hiring a consultant for $9.5 million to develop a “master plan” for Penn Station's expansion.

Both contracts will go before the full MTA Board on Thursday for final approval.

The Elmont station aims to serve the 19,000-seat arena being built as the home of the New York Islanders' National Hockey League team. It will include two 12-car platforms, a pedestrian overpass, canopies, lighting, elevators, and audio and visual announcement systems...

Gotcha.

i could actually see the NHL moving the game from the Panthers home rink to Miami.

Not happening. The two NHL drafts held in Sunrise were well attended, so will the All Star Game weekend. There's not a lot of room outside the American Airlines Arena to hold the Fan Fest stuff. Plenty of room outside BB&T.

An Islanders arena as the cornerstone of a massive renovation was being planned for Belmont Park long before the state issued its request for redevelopment proposals for the property, according to just-released documents filed in State Supreme Court.

Emails between the head of the New York Racing Association, officials from Empire State Development and Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office sent in November 2016, revealed details of an updated master plan for the Elmont horse-racing venue that included an arena for the Islanders.

The emails and master plan show that an Islanders arena was planned at least eight months before ESD issued its July 2017 request for proposals for the site and a month before the agency’s first Belmont RFP, issued in October 2012, was scrapped...

As LIBN reported in Feb. 2018, Kay had several meetings with Islanders’ ownership in early 2016 to discuss building a new home for the hockey team at Belmont Park. Before those meetings, ESD officials had already entered into negotiations with the frontrunner for their first RFP, the New York Cosmos, who were pitching a $400 million, 25,000-seat soccer stadium, 250,000 square feet of retail space, nine restaurants and a 175-room hotel for 36 acres of Belmont’s under-utilized parking lots.

But ESD abandoned its first RFP in December 2016 and subsequently issued a second RFP in July 2017, which was responded to by New York Arena Partners, the NYCFC soccer team and Blumenfeld Development Group.

A NYCFC spokesman said that the club believes the state’s RFP process was fair. He added that they entered the process with a substantial partner with the intentions of winning the bid...

Meanwhile, Judge Roy Mahon is slated to make a decision in March on whether to grant the stay requested by Floral Park and its co-plaintiffs that would halt the Belmont arena construction.

This is very old news. Did the dial-up internet you used to google “negative Belmont arena news” have a hiccup or something?

They’re clearly reaching for anything/everything at this point.

:laugh::laugh: Actually I don't use dial up internet. Someone in IM posted the article today so I decided to share it here.

Talk about throwing **** at the wall to see what sticks.

Entirely possible. But Isles allegedly discussed their arena plans with NYRA before ESD killed Belmont Park RFP Round 1, which may be difficult to explain. However, ESD was within their rights to cancel Belmont Park RFP Round 1 and issue another, where Isles put in the best bid among the 3 parties in Round 2.

I'm not so sure this moves the needle. The important consideration is whether the criteria was designed to promote legitimate interests and whether the decision was fairly made based on that criteria.

I realized yesterday that no media outlets ever reported on ESD's involvement with Isles and NYRA before they pulled the plug on Belmont Park RFP Round 1, which may be another hurdle against Belmont Park Arena lawsuits.

I guess my question is to what extent the RFP has to be this pure, equal playing field? In other words, if the state has a preferred development opportunity but they still open the process up for other proposals, can the process be legally challenged?

Considering the Cosmos barely exist at the moment, in limbo, hoping to get into a third-tier independent league that started play this past year, canceling the first round of the RFP sure looks like the right move in retrospect.

MTA approves contract for work on Elmont stop

Posted January 30, 2020

By Melissa Koenig
Questions remain on whether a new Elmont Long Island Rail Road station should be built, after the Metropolitan Transportation Authority board voted on Jan. 21 to approve a $65 million contract for its construction.

Under the terms of the contract, Queens-based Judlau Contracting will build a stop on the Hempstead line with two 12-car platforms, a pedestrian overpass, lighting, elevators, and an audio and visual announcement system. The company previously constructed the MTA’s Second Avenue subway station in Manhattan, and officials expect Elmont’s eastbound platform to be open in time for the New York Islanders’ 2021-22 season, with the westbound platform finished one year later.

The proposal to build a station was included in the Belmont Park redevelopment project, after Elmont residents argued that any construction at the park should include a full-time station. Renovations to the existing station at the park would be too costly and time-consuming, experts said, so state officials included plans for the station in the project’s final environmental impact statement. The station will sit on the border between Elmont and Bellerose Terrace, halfway between the Queens Village and Bellerose stops, and will feature shuttle buses for anyone trying to get to Belmont Park...

Haven't looked in a while so I thought I'd take a peek at the progress but apparently the cam is down. Has it been down for a while?

Was just down for a few hours yesterday afternoon. After checking just now, it appears they were adding an additional "View 1" that looks to just be a still frame as of now, and maybe moved the camera to a different location a little further back?
