Still always curious as to how they figured the lengths of some of these home runs for vintage players. Statcast is cool and its the 21st century so it works for me.

Basically what I'm saying is, how the **** did Mickey Mantle hit a 565 ft home run? I may be skeptical....

There were actual eyewitnesses that saw him almost hit one out of Yankee Stadium, it's not quite the apocryphyal story that say, the Babe Ruth 'called shot' in the 1932 World Series was.

I still think about Fernando Tatis hitting two grand slams in the same inning.

SB Nation talked about it in a recent video and it constantly fascinates me. Has to be one of the most unbreakable records in sports.
I was like 7 or 8 when that happened and I remember exactly where I was. That and the McGwire/Sosa homerun battle are my first baseball memories.

On May 4th, 1963 Bob Shaw of the Milwaukee Braves walked Billy Williams of the Chicago Cubs. Shaw ended up balking three times in the inning allowing a run to score.

I love baseball antiquity names so much because they're things like Tyson Gibraltar or Herculanus Henry Hamilton.

From 49-56 one of the three NY teams won the World Series every year.

And several of them were NY-NY/Brooklyn...'49, '51-53, '55 and '56

Think the only other inter-city World Series outside of NY were the Cubs and White Sox way back in 1906 and the wartime clash of the Browns with the Cardinals in 1944. Not sure if the Cubs and White Sox shared a stadium at that point but the Browns and Cardinals played all the games in Sportsman's Park. A couple of the early Yankee-Giant World Series in the 20's were at the Polo Grounds entirely, not sure if any other World Series were one stadium only.

Plenty of other inter-state World Series, mostly involving California teams...'74, '88, '89, 2002. And the Don Dekinger classic in 1985 in Missouri. Probably still leaving out a couple.

Dodgers barely missed pennants in 1950-1951, so it could have been five straight NY/Brooklyn World Series

All World Series games from 1903-1970 took place in the afternoon

I used to run home from elementary school to watch the games! Cards-Bosox, Tigers-Cards, Mets-O's, O's-Reds. The good old days!

I saw Pete Rose's, Hank Aaron's and Robin Yount's 3000th hits. Pete got a 5 minute standing ovation on May 5, 1978 against Montreal for a single to LC, right in my direction. Hank's was an infield hit. Robin hit a single to RC off of Jose Mesa. Paul Molitor gave him a big hug.

Thats crazy, all those times they had to take the interstate to play a team from their own state...
