i think the knights did an excellent job of turning the tables on roussel last night, making him into the distraction for his own team and as the excuse for reeves to act out.

will be very interesting to see whether green dresses macewen or goes in the opposite direction. i am not really in favour of sending macewen out to handle this situation.

Reeves would turn MacEwen into hamburger...

Roussel needs to focus on playing hard against the knights top players. Hit them hard and often. Give them whacks in the hands and get in their face.

goofing around with reeves does nothing for the Canucks. Canucks have a better chance of winning when reeves is on the ice.

YEah would prefer that he ignores Reeves and instead targets Vegas's skill players............Reeves obviously knows he would rag doll Roussell so why rile him up even further? Focus on making the skill guys pay.....
but what if reaves comes and does the same thing to our skill guys ? roussel isn't gonna fight reaves man, thats a battle he cannot win.

our skill guys were targeted all last series and made out just fine. If Reeves becomes an issue then let Zac or Benn deal with him. For now I would just avoid poking the bear.

Poke the Bear, poke the goalie poke everyone! Enter the fight. That does not mean fight it means compete. Roussel competed, Gaudette competed. who else with physical attributes did. You do not win by turtling. Scorers score, physical players go after their their skill. Ignore Reaves physically.

Not really all that happy with his contract, but otherwise actually really happy with Rousell and what he has brought to the team. Is often the best thing about the checking line, along with Motte, and is great for getting the team's energy up when they need to be woken up.

In the summer of spend, when they signed Roussel Beagle and Schaller, his was the contract that least bothered me. Hopefully he returns to form next season but that he agency just hammers home the point of not giving term to bottom six guys.

the "summer of spend" is outstanding. well done.

It needs a date on it like Lollapalooza ‘95 or else it could be referring to one of many summers.
They committed more cap hit to free agents the following summer. It definitely needs a date.

“mentorship months ‘18” could work.

18-19 Roussel was worth 3M

19-20 Roussel was not worth 3M

One can only hope he is worth 3M over the course of the duration of his contract. Hopefully his injuries in 18-19 has not derailed his 5v5 offense and play driving.

Of all the albatross contracts for bottom-six forwards on the Canucks, Roussel's is far from the worst. But please, can we find someone else for the second-unit pp?

Roussel had a very good year a couple seasons a go with the Canucks, where he had 31 points in 65 games played. Unfortunately as of late Roussel has been dealing with injuries. Hopefully with a healthy season, Roussel can pick up where he left off, a complete douchebag on the ice, who can occasionally put up some points. Although overpaid, he is by far not the worst contract on our roster.

seeing Clifford sign for 1 million seeing Benning throw 3 million at him is face palm worthy. Having a guy like him in the bottom 6 can really help the team, but paying him too much is also not worth it. The amount he was signed for is way too much for what he brings.

Hoping he can be more effective pest player next season. If there is one.

Motte should move up and Roussel down. I think we’ll see a better Roussel and Motte will benefit with a more skilled center (Gaudette).

Roussel truly looks like one of the worst players in the entire league, signed for one more year at an inflated salary, while blocking the progress of other better and younger players like MacEwan.

I've never seen an 'energy player' who is so completely invisible when the clock is running. Just such a limp noodle out there now.

He's OK enough defensively that he isn't actively hurting you, but is basically just this black hole of nothing much like Loui Eriksson.

_________

In fairness, in this compressed season (and in every season, honestly) there should be a plan in place to limit your bottom-6 energy players to 40-45 games so they can stay energized and have maximum impact. And have the thread of guys coming in and outplaying them as a motivating factor. And we get a look at other players. Instead a 32 y/o Roussel plays every night and looks totally gassed. Not really surprising.
