Can't deny his scoring. Will it translate to the bigs?

Everyone else on that scoring list is legit.

Wonder who will be smart enough to take him?

Still wonder who you pick at 3 or 4?

I really like Turcotte and Kaliyev.

My 3 and 4 is Dach and Turcotte. Dach reminds of me of Drai.

Kaliyev, if available at our spot you draft immediately. You cant teach skill like that. The guys around his mark in OHL history or all legit. You take him and run to the bank.

McDavid or Draisaitl feeding him? He could hit 50 goals in the big.

I woudn't take him at #3 or #4, but with how we are currently playing, we could end up with a pick from #8 to potentially a playoff pick. I wouldn't hesitate to take him there.

Honestly at 3 I might go Byram. He’s growing on me a lot. Him or Dach for me.

Keith Gretzky and co at the Ice Dogs game. They've had a heavy presence this year.

Probably watching Maksimov and scouting Tomasino

Kyen Sopa is another late round option from the Ice Dogs. He's scored 19 goals in his rookie season in the OHL, but he plays down the lineup some. He knows how to take the puck to the net, but needs to show more consistency in his game.
Stephen Dhillon is having another solid season in goal for the Ice Dogs as well. He is an undrafted free agent who will move on from hockey or move to the pros next year.

The Sting also had a few interesting names to watch. Jamieson Rees likely goes early in the second round. He's an offensive fireplug who plays the game the right way. He battles hard for loose pucks and his speed is a definite asset.
Brayden Guy and Ashton Reesor are 7th round type picks. Guy is big and physical and a menace on the forecheck. Not sure he has a translatable offensive game. Reesor is a good skater, but just hasn't put his game together yet.
Overager Hugo Leufvenius has put together a wonderful second season in the OHL and this will be his last chance of hearing his name called at the draft. There will be worse players taken in the 7th round for sure....

Unfortunately Rees was still suspended for this:

With us now winning games if we end up around 7 or 8 I might want to trade down and snag 2 top 20 picks.

We could take a faller out of the top 10 or a guy like Lavoie and take Spencer Knight.

I'm a huge fan of Knight. Getting him would give us our stud goalie of the future.

I'd use a late first on Knight, but man history is full of "stud goalies of the future". So tough to predict.

I can't help, but think of Jack Campbell when I hear about the next great American goalie.

If we continue to climb the standings I'd be for trading down in the draft. Lets say for example we're picking at 12 and Byram, Turcotte, Krebs, Kaliyev, and Zagreb are off the board. I'd trade down for a pick in the early 20's and draft whomever falls between Tomasino, Newhook, McMichael, and Brink.

Let's trade up for a higher selection.

We build around McDavid and Byram.

Perhaps keep our selection or get a pick around the #8-#18 selection and select a forward with a high i.Q or sniper.

And there's the rebuild volume 8 edition.

I'd draft forward(s) with our first 2 picks and just offer sheet Chabot next year 8M. He's definitely worth giving up two 1sts, 2nd and a 3rd

Yak scored 50 to ...... we need high IQ players coming in. Just look at what a Sam Gagner level player has done in our group. If Kaliyev can move and make plays, read the ice and score goals then great, but if he is 1 dimensional, it doesn't make much of a difference other then more goals for and more goals against.

There's a difference between Kaliyev and Yak. Kaliyev seems to read plays better, and knows how to get into a prime scoring area. He already passed Yak's highest goal total season in the OHL. His shot also seems a tier above Yak's.

Another guy I might take is Lavoie. A right shot sniper who also has good offensive instincts.

So many guys I like in that 11-20 range.

McMichael (name is a bonus), Pelletier, Tomasino, Newhook, Lavoie, and Kaliyev just for forwards.

Honestly, past Kakko, Hughes, Dach, and Turcotte, I don't see that much of a difference between picks 7 and 20.

So many potential steals past 10th overall.
Bowen Byram is a very interesting player.

I've seen him a few times and every single game he's made a play that gets everyone out of their seats. He's a big time riverboat gambler and could never get away with some of the things he does in the pros, but he can skate and has a ton of skill.

With proper coaching (I know, scary for Edmonton) he could be really special. I hate using comparisons, but there's a bit of Erik Karlsson there.
