In fairness, the combined record of the Western teams they've played is 51-18-9. Which is absurd.

True, but it gets even harder in the next 4. The 4 upcoming western teams are 43-11-6. :amazed:

Wild: 9-4-3
Avalanche: 12-2-0
Ducks: 13-3-1
Blues: 9-2-2

Well ****. The Canes must have a ton of games left against terrible teams.

They do, it's called the Metropolitan division.

Seriously though, there are only a handful of teams in the west a .500 or worse (in terms of possible points). The worst 4 teams in the west are:

Dallas: 16 points/15 games: 7-6-2
Calgary: 14 points/15 games: 6-7-2
Winnipeg: 14 points/17 games: 6-9-2
Edmonton: 10 points/16 games: 4-10-2.

Everyone else has a pretty decent record.

If at the start of this thread I told you that at game 16, the Staals would have a combined 13 Pts and a -12, Skinner would miss 6 games, Sekera was tied for 3rd leading scorer, and Justin Peters led the goalies in minutes played what would you think the Canes record would be?

Need one point in the next two games to hit the quota.

Granted, we'll eventually need more than that to get ourselves back into it. But this isn't the stretch to do that, and I'd like to think we're all happy with 6 points from this stretch.

Yeah, against four Western teams with those records, 6 points is fine.

Though 9 points would be better :sarcasm:

OP updated.

Also is it just me or do we not get 5-games without 2-3 powerhouse teams in that stretch until early Jan?

Well maybe if they can stay slightly above or right at .500 they can use the "lighter" second half to their advantage and finally make a 7th or 8th seat. Our division is going to be hard to beat this year. I just don't know where this is headed based on what I've seen but then again that's not much different than any recent season.

I think Carolina can squeak in that third spot in the metrp. Division is weak besides the pens and Caps and those two also have flaws, just they have by far, the most explosive offenses in the division.

Canes need to stay afloat.. right around where they are because I think the Atlantic is getting five teams in.

Staying afloat since 2010, which we all know, no playoffs.. This team needs a identity, and play to it... 1/3 way in season, shouldnt a team have a identity?

So this thread is turning into an avenue to worry more about the implications of any one game? They're three points out of second with a game in hand. The Metro is bad.

The title has been upfront about the overreaction to every game since the beginning

I will say when you look at the games in chunks of 5 they seem a hell of a lot more important than looking at them as one out of 82.

This is good to look at after the season, but what it doesn't factor in is other teams in the division.

Everyone in the Division except the pens is behind pace. That may change but when you have to be in the top 3 to guarantee yourself a spot and you're only 1 point back, Its not as bad as the numbers look.

Yep. As astonishing as it sounds, a 98 point pace may not be necessary to crack the top 3 in this division.
