I don't see why we're looking at the Wild as a pushover? They've basically done exactly what we have.

I didn't see anyone looking at them as a pushover. The only reference I see to beating them
Was Blueline calling it "maybe doable". Have we become so pessimistic that insinuating there is a chance the Canes could win a game is the same as calling the opposition a pushover?

The Wild (like the Canes) have been underperforming as a group, but also like the Canes, have had their depth players step up and keep them afloat.

As much as I hate to say it, the Canes have got to keep an eye on Matt Cooke. And not for the reasons you'd expect. The guy's turned into a legit scoring threat for a third liner.

And, of course, their stars have to outperform Minnesota's...on both ends of the ice. Staal vs. Koivu should be a trainwreck on one side or the other if one of them doesn't perform to expectations.

legit lol'd.

and yeah, the league is about as competitive as it's been at any time recently, aside from one or two really bad teams any given year. Sabres are terribad but they still have Miller in net more then capable of stealing them at least a point, Oilers are back to full-on tank mode, but they still have enough talent to make things real tricky, even if they're the most poorly assembled collection of top picks I've seen in a while.

Yep, I think think he's been that way for a few years now, just his reputations has overshadowed his ability to play hockey.

First two insta-losses. Last 3 would have been advantageous in the Canes favor had Ward or Anton been in net. But if we're using Peters/Murphy in those games...ewwww

And it'll be typical luck to have the Rangers start playing well around this time.

1-4. Only think we beat the Flyers.

I think we lose tonight in Colorado due to being the away team, and we'll probably lose to Pittsburgh as Crosby and Malkin are capable of murdering Peters/Murphy. But then I'd chalk us up for 3 consecutive wins against two anemic has-been teams and the Lightning.

edit: Stamkos and St. Louis can obviously exploit goalies, but the Lightning have had awful goaltending as well this year. I think we're a better team, plus it's a home game and we'll be able to get desirable matchups against the Lightning top line.

All the talk over the summer about how tough it will be to make the playoffs in the new division is looking kind of hilarious now. It's still early obviously but there may be Metro teams that make it based solely on how mediocre this division is, the exact opposite of what many were predicting.

And the thing is, it's largely due to the extremely predictable implosion of NJ and Philly, combined with the perpetual mediocrity of the Rangers, Isles and Caps.

Nothing much has changed about any of these teams, other than the Rangers struggling a bit more than expected.
