Nespotism. I don't know if that's a typo but even if it was, I like it.

Some might say it kinda sums up Pierre Lacroix's managerial style, but you didn't hear that from me.
Yup, typo right there. Good eye!

Still puzzled they could not find another pro goalie.

Watching Spengler. UFA got 2 kids that are highly touted, #27 (Amirov) and #85. Hard to get a read on them with their team being overmatched, bad stream and minimal icetime.

TPS #77 Sund looks good. SJS property.#48 Pajuniemi 2018 NYR unsigned draftee is a shooter.

BTW Sean Burke invited his son to be the 3rd string goalie. Talk about nespotism.

Edit: Amirov just scored.

Pajuniemi has clearly worked on his shot over the summer, he's become elite in an area he previously wasn't anything above average at. No doubt going to be seeing him in NHL soon.

Here's some of his Liiga goals from this year:

Amirov is awesome, he's quite slim, but there is serious talent with him. I currently have him still as a mid-tier first rounder and I see some of the lists are joining such as HockeyProspects, ISS, and McKeen's hockey. Only weird one is Future Considerations, but not sure how much FC should be taken serious any more. He reminds me of Ricard Rakell, good mobile player that can both score and make plays.

The other Russian a very much like is Khusnutdinov and he had a fantastic U18 tournament last year, but I see he hasn't been ranked high by anyone. He's smaller at 5'9" and 165 lbs, but I think he's more dynamic at times from Amirov. If he isn't a 1st rounder, I would easily draft him in the second round.

All the Germans have come out to play thus far at the WJC; Steutzle looks very dynamic, reminds me of a slimmer MacKinnon. He has some problems of doing too much at times, but his desire to want to make a difference is fantastic. Easily a top 5 player and I think if he continues to have a strong showing, he could be as high as 3rd overall. Especially considering that I don't think Raymond has the same level of dynamism with the puck.

JJ Peterka is still a favourite of mine and I think he's been a better surprise for me than Steutzle, he's as mobile as Steuztle is and knows where to go for goalscoring. Reichel has been good as well, not sure he has the same level of ability as JJP and Steuztle has, but he looks to be a very attention to detail player. Nonetheless, it doesn't look like he has top 6 offensive ability, he definitely has that top 9 tweener talent that could play multiple roles.

It is very disappointing how little the Czechs are playing Mysak, especially on the PP. He should easily be on the first unit, considering how much of a scoring threat he is, but it seems that like Canada, the Czechs are relying on their older players. Still someone I would absolutely draft for Bednar's system. Very north to south, off the rush winger, but his talent and strength in this regard is quite ridiculous. Should be a mid-tier first rounder. Been quite impressed by Kazakhstan's Maxim Musorov as well, could be a solid bottom three round pick.

Musorov has definitely jumped out at me this tourney. He's got a great shot and a little bit of that hard-to-define goal scorer's instinct to be in the right place at the right time to finish.

Getting excited for undrafted overagers is almost always a mistake.
Well, there is a wide range of different overagers; some fix skating issues, some fix physicality issues, some become more mature mentally, some fix their diet, and so forth. Just because he's an overager doesn't mean he's a useless pick, especially if we're able to grab them in the bottom 3 rounds instead using a stupid fourth on Saigeon. It all depends on who you target and when, Fagemo is looking great as an OV pick and I suggest you cannot get worst than selecting Okuliar alongside Josh Williams as overagers in later rounds. The biggest problem is that NHL GMs will see someone like Leason or Pearson for that matter and will overrate the hell out of them.

In the case of Sokolov, it seems that his skating is a bit iffy, but he also weighs 240 lbs and losing some of that weight could make him a legit prospect in the long-run while also making him more mobile.

Anton Lundell's father, long-time HIFK goalie and goalie coach Jan Lundell dressed as the backup in the FEL tonight, as former Milwaukee Admiral Atte Engren got sick. It's a cool stunt of course, but Anton Lundell and his 46-year-old father are dressed for the same game.

Sign me up for Noel Gunler if we end up around the same spot as last year. 15 seems low for him.

With 1:06 left up 4-1, HIFK took a timeout and put both Lundell's in. Dad didn't face any shots.

Oh, actually he got credited with one save. It was at the end from the neutral zone.

E: Oh and since this is the draft thread, Anton Lundell had a sweet assist.

Actually pretty cool.

@S E P H kinda surprised Holloway moved up. He's been pretty mediocre for Wisconsin so far.
That's a bit harsh, a freshman playing for a Big Ten school is always a challenge by itself. I am a pretty bit fan of the player, style, and potential. He won't be a top end player, but he plays a lot like Matthew Tkachuk for me without all the baggage on the side. Perhaps he will develop some antics after the whistle which could make him into even a better player.

He's also a late birthday that is of a similar age to the +1 crowd of kids. He's with his peer 01 age group who is being more successful than him so far. Turcotte is only 6 months older than him, Brink is only 2. I get college hockey is a big step up, just been a pretty mediocre year for a guy that is beating down the door on your top 10. I like his skill set and his ability to play center, just more of a guy that is a 2nd sort of grade to me and I haven't seen enough offensive ability and skill to feel comfortable projecting him to be a top 6 guy (I'd projects him as a 3rd line wing who can play center long-term). 1st round grades look to cut off in the late 20s to me right now... so a late 20s to 30s sort. Compared to somebody like Perrault, I'd take Perrault's skill and chance to be an impact player.

@S E P H I'm far from a prospect guy so I'm curious why Lundell is low? I've always liked his game and his IQ and he seems like a safe bet to transition imo.
I am not the biggest fan in the world of Wheeler, but how he described Lundell's game in one of his articles is quite accurate to me. He's a great prospect, top 15 overall in the entire world is no small feat. However, I don't see him have top end offensive talent even though he has some good traits in his game. For example, I suggest that he plays a very mature style who's very responsible without the puck and has above-average offensive potential.

His game style reminds me of a centre due to his two-way ability, but I question how high his offensive skills are and why I dropped him because he's played wing this season too. What I think you're going to get with him at this current point of time is either a 2nd line winger or a 3rd line centre - who has 2nd line centre potential - and there are ten better players IMHO. In the top ten you should be hitting either 1st line centres, 1st line wingers, top-pairing defenders, or 1B goalers and I just don't see anything higher from him as of now. Reminds me of a bit more talented Adam Henrique (or Brock Nelson) type of player and even though I suggest that he's serviceable and will have a long NHL career, top ten is a reach for me.
