Rielly can't pass?
Rielly came a long way since the last time he seen him play 4 years ago I’m thinking :)
Edit: I’m actually getting sick and tired of the b.s disrespect Rielly gets from the entire hockey industry. His game is as good as anyone in the league’s #1 in most areas. His shot has improved and he might be the best skating defenseman in the league. He will score more points than Alex Pietrangelo this year I’m thinking. I’ll rub it in if he does too haha.

His hands are ok but not good ... but he wheels like no one else and can create space for his hands if Brodie can get him pucks in clear
Wow man. This is the stuff right here I’m talking about. His hands aren’t good you are saying? Then on top of that you say he can only be good if Brodie helps him. Really Brodie who was never here. Jeez you are just full of potential to run him down softly. Thats nonsense

All you have to do is watch a game live where you solely focus on Rielly ... it is hard to do as a fan but most scouts watch this way ... and it must be live ... then you will see Morgan creates open space using his legs which are world class ... you would be hard pressed to find another dman anywhere who can fly with Morgan ... Dermy is next closest guy we got but still back ... but he often has puck flip over his stick on hard passes so when he has room it does not matter but when ice is tight he can't yoyo da puck it is not in his wheelhouse of tricks

Ohh i never though he handled passed with difficulty at all. Skating phewww nobody has a better skating dman than him. I like the way Josi rolls. I never though Morgs went hard enough for his own goals off the rush like Josi does but they move good. I don’t think he needs to be nit picked. But he gets nit picked. He’s came so far in the last three years that he was a completely different player prior to that. Then you see posters come in and explain all his faults to a tee what he was four years ago.
I know you ate fair but some are just completely off. I don’t know if they ate being disingenuous or just bluffing because they wayched him so little that they go off of 4 darn years ago.
Morgan Rielly is one of the very best #1 defensemen in the league. I wasn’t always so kind to him. This opinion of him he earned through developing in to what we see now.
I don’t have one complaint about his game anymore because he keeps his errors down so much now. Oh oh getting long ha

I am with you ... his development has been excellent ... all i am trying to do is give him da absolute best chance to carry us to Cup land ... too many of us feel need to throw away young dmen in their first 5-7 years when they are learning pro game ... hopefully with Muzzy Brodie and Bogo we can train our youngsters how to play and earn ice da right way ... and now Rielly is a true vet so we are in much much better shape then we have been since early 90's

I wasn’t sure so i checked, this is Rielly’s 8th season coming up and he’s only 26 haha. We are kind of lucky and not that we didn’t ruin him. He’s that good when he was a teenager that he has improved through all of the pressure and Sh!tshow coaches and G.M’s and salute gate and them ingrates or whatever they were. He’s still the same person. Better player in spades that half the teams #1’s and as good as the rest on any given night. The big deal is going to be getting him a new contract. I have no doubt he gets a chip on his shoulder this year because the coach is asking everyone to do their part in that regard. He is kind of a powerhouse if he wants to be

I became a fan of Rielly after his mom gave it to him big time publicly after coming back from Boston a couple playoffs back ... to me he then got it from game 3 onwards ... then year with Hainsey helped .. and even last year with Barrie he learned again although not good for his health ... but you are right many a men would have caved into da complete lack of d management going on here

It’s kind of shaping up and looking like a solid structure coming. Top 9 never worked. We didn’t have even a solid 4th line while that approach was going on. The all skill is great debate is over. You can not win with it predominantly. Fun to watch nonetheless.
A team needs top 6 bottom 6 and very fortunately for us as of now,we can expect some scoring and solid all round play from our bottom 6.
Edmonton won’t be leading the Canadian division. They were better last year than they are today. They can have fun with Barrie because he will not replace Klefbom. He will replace his minutes but he doesn’t hold a candle to Oscar for top shelf defense.
We actually went the other way away from offense better than the Oilers. Our defense looks solid :)

How is putting your 5th 6th and 7th best forwards together on the 3rd line a "top6/bot6" strategy instead of a "top9" strategy?

Well i don’t know know my man but you should figure it out because thats what we have. I’ll hint, something to do with supression of goals against through a defensive first approach. Description will cone in the form of large plus number in the goals differential.
What kind of a question is that man. Are ya trying to be all fancy

If they wanted top6/bottom6 they would stack all the best 6 on the top 2 lines.

Instead they're dropping two top6 guys down to make a better 3rd line and a more complete top9.

Why are you analyzing it as if its last years roster. This is a completely different team with many adds. You ignore that all you want.

Think it's weird that dropping top6 guys down to the 3rd line gets interpreted as a move towards a top6/bot6 when its clearly a move towards a top9.

I don’t even get this contention at second glance. You are goung to argue that Hyman kerfoot and Mikheyev won’t be a shutdown energy line i suppose. Furthermore i said Hyman would likely still score in the paint in the post. It is defined by the players certain type of skills i suppose. I don’t know how you don’t see that.

No it isnt one single bit. These guys are defensively strong. Well kerfoot isn’t much on faceoffs so that part sucks

I don't know how to see it otherwise.

The leafs have taken two top 6 forwards and put them on the 3rd line so that they can run a better top9.

Reilly is the only player in the NHL where his gf/wife is a better skater than him, lol.

Reilly is a No.1 Dman and he is becoming more and more a horse in the league.

Another angry person, who really lacks an understanding of much with this team. We certainly do have our share of people who love to hate the team, they claim to love. If you don't understand why Kadri had to be traded, you weren't paying attention, and no, this isn't just about playoff suspensions. The comments about Rielly, I mean LOL.... other than playing this years playoffs injured, he'd put up 15 points in 20 games... but useless right? 0.75 PPG playoff D man... useless...pffftt!!! Can't pass? What and who are you watching? Yes, not the best defensive d man... but can't defend... really, I shouldn't even be acknowledge such tripe.
Angry? Nah. I was angry before Columbus series and now I do not care anymore.
Why did they trade for Barrie, a pp specialist? Because Reilly is useless there: can't shoot, can't pass. Only thing he knows is skating. Whenever there is space, he can skate. Not a first pair material. Lots of easy o-zone starts and his stats look good. But what he is going to do when bad boys storm the crease? Cry?
I didn't like Kadri but he was a fighter. Huge loss.
Now the center is weak. They bring oldman Thornton to repair it.
The only thing that can save this team is if young dmen make fast progress.

What’s wrong with Holl all the sudden? The guy played some hard minutes for us with no way to afford him anywhere to find any sheltered minutes. He fought his way through it as best he could. Holl is a competent dman. Forced right in to playing against the very best and i give him thumbs up man. He’s come so far so fast in usage I don’t even have a clue how he could pick it up that fast and pkay as good as he did.
Holl was solid, is solid.
Holl is brain dead. His choices are flat out bad.

Rielly Brodie
Muzzin
Lehtonen Bogosian

Holl Dermott Sandin Liljegren fighting to play makes sense as no borderline dman should be lock to make a team that underachieved last year.
