I always felt Knight was going to take 3 probably 4 years before he was ready to play so Grubs current play is kinda irrelevant.

With Grubauer claiming the starting spot and looking like the guy for years to come, how many people are still on board with Knight at 16?

A month ago, it was full steam ahead on Knight with our pick, but I’m curious if that has changed now.
Knight is 3-4 years away from the NHL, he'd be ready just in time.

Edit: Iracundia beat me to it.

Askarov & Wallstedt looking just as nasty is a better argument against picking Knight this year, depending on who falls to #16, since we should be picking later in future drafts...when the skater quality could be less than what could be available to us this year.

Leading to the 2017 draft, there was a never-ending argument here because some thought we shouldn't pick a defenseman at #4 since the next year would be full of top defensemen.

Would have been a huge mistake to pass on Makar to pick Glass or Vilardi, especially since there was no top ranked dman left when it was our turn to pick in 2018.

Would it have still been a huge mistake to pass on Makar to pick EP, especially since top tier goalies don't go as high as top tier blueliners so it would be like having Dahlin at available at our pick the next?

Nevermind that our need on the blueline was far more pressing than our need in goal currently is, or that goalies have even longer development tracks than do blueliners, when we're now a win-now team whereas back then we were still deep in the rebuild. So that's a rather disingenuous way of framing the discussion and if that's the game we're going to play, it can be played both ways.

We did have those discussions yes. But it's proven that you can't really get a #1 defenseman without drafting them and leaving one on the table in hopes of drafting one next year is illogical.

Sakic proved with Grubauer that the same isn't necessarily true with goaltenders.

Grubauer is doing well, the solid 2-3 months he’s put together proves nothing though. Why damn yourself to a cycle of scrambling to acquire someone else’s cast-off goalies if you have an elite prospect staring you in the face?

Do people get a the thrill off acquiring a goalie that might be good or might just be the product of the team in front of them and then waiting 1-3 years to figure out if they’re the long term solution or not?

Knight isn't a sure thing either. Trading for a developed goalie is less risky because you can see how they've developed and how they handle pressure.
