Turcotte or Byram. Happy with either. I’ll stick with Turcotte - I think we can supplement Makar and G on the blue line with our own first round pick...somebody like Soderstrom, Heinola, York or Seider.

I just feel like Turcotte is going to be a line driving force eventually and that’s what we need. A guy who can truly anchor a second unit no matter who he is playing with.

So....

#4: Alex Turcotte or Dylan Cozens
#16: Ville Heinola or Cole Caufield

How I'd be approaching June 21st

I like where your head is at. In a vacuum I’d prefer a blue liner with our pick but Caufield is a stone cold lock to be the next DeBrincat IMO and think of the synergy with them playing together at UW next year. Plus a sniping winger should also be in the list.

I would put a lot of money on the Top 3 of the draft going Hughes/Kakko/Podkolzin now though.

To me Chicago and New York are absolutely the two teams that would have no qualms with taking Podkolzin in the Top 3. They're huge popular cities and highly popular teams that would take a lot less work to convince Podkolzin to come to North America sooner rather than later.

Also, people will laugh at this right now and who knows what happens, but it seriously would not surprise me in the least to see the Rangers take Podkolzin at #2. I quietly suspect they had been high on him for a long time now, they showed a willingness to take a Russian higher than expected last year with Kravtsov, and with Podkolzin being a better prospect than him...

We'll see how the U18s go, but IMO it just became a remote possibility of something very unexpected going down on draft day.

For the people joining this thread for the first time...

- Bowen Byram is a defencive-defender version of Morgan Rielly or Drew Doughty. Fantastic vision, field of play, and puck decisions.

- Dyan Cozens is an superb skating electric two-way player with a lethal shot, plays similar to Gabriel Landeskog or Mark Scheifele.

- Kirby Dach is a big framed playmaker who's IQ and playmaking ability is only bested by Jack Hughes, plays similar to Ryan Johansen.

- Peyton Krebs is an engine player never taking shifts or plays off who also possesses very good IQ and playmaking; picture Sebastian Aho 2.0.

- Alex Turcotte is a centre version of Zach Parise which I suggest has more talent than Parise and can take his game up levels.

- Trevor Zegras is an accomplished two-way C & W akin to Claude Giroux who is very slippery with the puck and has a lot of tools like stickhandling, vision, and deceptiveness.

I don't quite understand this talk about Turcotte or Cozens. Why those guys over Dach who is my personal favourite?

I’m not sold on Podkolzin and with his indefinite timeline to come over that’s a ton of risk. Especially when he hasn’t exactly shown he can light it up.

Yes he's said that he wants to honor his current (2 year) commitment...which quite frankly he needs before he's NHL ready...but in that same interview said that it's his dream to play in the NHL once he's ready. So I don't see how his timeline is any more indefinite than Makar's was when he was drafted nor is that of any NCAA commit's.

His /60 production has been good in league play, despite having never played at even the MHL level prior to this season due to his youth...not turning 18 until after the draft...and his tournament results have been excellent. So I just don't understand the production complaints either; especially if he rips up the u18s, as expected :dunno:

Dach is good as well. I think Turcotte has higher upside. He was projected to go pretty high but was injured this year and had to work his way up again.

Podkolzin if he's still available. Not sure if he's not, gotta start watching videos.

Feeling Cozens or Byram while having very limited knowledge of both.
