My hope is for two seasons of misery on the ice in St. Louis and San Jose. Nothing against either franchise, but if it'll help the Sabres then **** 'em. Both franchises miss the playoffs this year and StL gets a top 10 pick -> both picks get deferred to 2020 -> both teams miss the playoffs again and give us two high first rounders -> win Alexis Lafreniere lottery with one of the traded picks -> profit

Of course everyone would love this but I’ll personally be happy if the firsts are just higher than 25th ov. These teams are both going for it

I have friends coaching and in mgmt w different USHL clubs. Knight gets talked about like Hughes. Yes he is a goalie, but the comment i like best from someone I trust, "he was born to challenge people to beat him." Tireless worker, and icewater in his veins. I would spend a late first.

It's really early, but based on the preliminary findings, I already love this draft way more than 2018, no matter how many picks we have.

This is quickly looking like a draft where I want all 3 firsts, plus our second. AND the in-season risers haven't even started yet.

Also, there's going to be a lot of speed in this draft.

I wouldn't trade any of the picks from the first round.

Imagine walking away with Kakko/Cozens, Vlasic/Robertson, and Knight in the first round, and getting Murray/Vukojevic in the second.

No way I'm trading out of that future.

The in-season fallers also haven't started yet, though. Just something to keep in mind, because there are always some highly touted kids who end up disappointing.

Ikelechien posted this on the prospect board. Just a list to drive discussion.

Here is my early version (pre Hlinka Tournament) of the 2019 draft. I am sure it will drastically change when hockey starts to be played again. Players can start their draft year as completely different prospects e.g. Ryan Strome who bulked over the summer and became a top-end prospect after spending the previous year as a skinny-minny. Anyone wanting the complete list (430 + players) can message me.
Oh, I purposely made the list for the first 4 rounds as 123 so you could point out who I had missed. Probably, should have left room for more than one, huh – next time.

I dunno if I'll ever be on board with drafting a goalie in the first round. For some reason my mind jumps to Zach Fucale who had all the hype in the world surrounding him after setting records in the juniors. Ends up getting picked 36th and becomes one of the bigger goalie busts of recent memory.

Goalies are such a wash at that age it's just so hard to tell.

The problem with goalies is even if you hit on one, if that it’s still going to take 4,5 before he’s even good enough to play. What GM is going to want to wait around that long for a maybe?

I’m amused you think we’ll get Hughes. If we’re that used and abused, i’d blow a fuse and cry the blues.

The two wingers I like at the top of the draft are Kakko and Cozens. Kakko plays more of Mittelstadt's game: lots of puck possession. He goes to the net but his game is more skating and puck possession.

Cozens is a more traditional power winger who can play in front of the net. But he's got good speed as well.

Kakko is the better prospect, but Cozens has a skillset the team doesn't really have right now.

I want a Barrett Hayton type centre prospect next year with one of the three first rounders. A guy who will do it all and has offensive talent to go with it. I’d also love to get a couple skilled wingers who can score and a right shot D In the top 2 rounds.

I’m expected as of now our first to be in that 7-10 range, and St.Louis to be in 10-20 range (there’s no way they are getting through that division) and the Sharks pick to be very late.

I don’t think there’s really even a comparison between the two, Kakko is on another level or two in terms of pro upside. Cozens is a lot like a Tage Thompson to me, not really a guy who I would target. I’m not really a fan of drafting power forwards high. For every Jarome Iginla 20 turn into Steve Bernier. But it’s obviously far to early, maybe he puts up 50 goals this year.

I was looking at both due to needing a young scoring wing with a power game. Kakko is a top3 pick. Cozens is too 10, 15 if he drops.

I don’t see Cozens playing like Thompson. He moves his feet more, and goes to the net more.

Maybe, it’s more a philosophy thing for me when it comes to drafting a forward that high. They need to an obvious elite aspect to there game, and it can’t be “elite size or goes to the net” lol.

Power forwards just scare me way to much. They usually just become the Zack Kassian, Lawson Crouse, Taylor Pyatt, Steven and Troy Browers of the NHL.

I get it. I also think true power forwards take a while to develop. If they've got the right tools, slow progression is the way to go.

That said, Kakko would be great....
