It is season 2019-20, our beloved Sens Army over the last few years has been embarrassed and destroyed, they've since been dismantled, and their strength has been replaced with young and able, but pre-prime bodies.

As they look to prepare for the upcoming season, even the most optimistic outlooks are bleak, and the team isn't expected to succeed in making it to the post-season.

While many users will be cheering for their success, some will be cheering for a maximized draft pick, which means hoping for a 31st finish.

Last year, the final standings were:

With the competing tank teams being:
- NYR
- Buffalo
- Detroit
- NJD
- LAK

Teams that have improved in that time include NYR who have completed one of the fastest rebuilds in recent history, the NJD who won the draft lottery, and Buffalo who has always had the necessary tools but have been missing the toolbox.

Teams that have gotten worst may include, Anaheim, Minnesota, and Columbus.

That leads us to the first question of the 2019-20 tank threads: who will the Ottawa Senators be competing with for the ultimate loser prize: the highest draft lottery odds.

If I had to predict the bottom 5 it would be Sens, Kings, Red Wings, Ducks, Oilers

I see Anaheim as a contender for last place.

Their forward group is kinda meh, especially since Getzlaf isn't getting any younger. Gibson should give them good goaltending though.

Oilers have two studs and a bunch of guys that make our roster look awesome. They are getting last imo.

I wouldn't be surprised if Detroit, Minnesota and Anaheim finished below us. Then you have Edmonton who is always a top dog when it comes to finishing near the bottom.

I don't expect the Sens to be anywhere near "good" but: young team, new coach with a good track record with younger players, decently skilled prospects, no expectations and no respect from other teams... I could see us surprising and finishing around 25th-ish.

LA Kings will definitely be competing with us for last, so will Anaheim. I'm not so sure Detroit will suck quite as much as some think they will as they have a lot of young talent with some experience at this point, but yeah, they won't be very far above us either.

But I feel like people are underestimating how bad the Jackets will be this season and I think they'll be our top competitor for last spot, at least in the East. They've got nothing going for them.

Still think we're by far the top contender to finish 31st though. I really want Lafrenière in a Sens jersey this time next year.

I agree. There are always teams that over achieve as well as those that under achieve. Look what happened to us after reaching the conference final!

Some fresh faces and a new coaching staff have the potential to push us out of the bottom 5!

My bet for big surprise (in a bad way) are the Rangers. That Panarin signing....it just feels like one of those pre-salary cap Ranger errors. Going for the biggest name and spending money instead of building a team properly...especially when they were doing so well and staying on course for a proper rebuild.

Torts knows how to play a 6-goalie defensive system. And they have a pretty good defensive core. He'll make sure the goalies are insulated....although some blueliners will become black & blueliners blocking a bazillion shots per game to do it.
