One of my favorite players back when he was a 25~ goal scorer, shame he fell off. Still like him over Weise, Lehtera, maybe even Weal.

^^ Ditto. One of my favorites in his prime years; underrated in his down years still.

Meat Read. I'll never forget you. You shouldn't have been in the AHL this year over Lehtera and Weise and Ghoul and Leier, but at least you got to play in the NHL late. And even get in Hakstol's good graces for the playoffs. Because he's a fickle son of a bitch. I don't see why you shouldn't be a 4th liner somewhere at < $1 mil next year.

50-50 on whether or not the offseason PK specialist acquisition that Hextall brings in will be better than Read.

Yeah, I don’t get why were letting him go when Weise and Lehtera are still taking up roster spots and we have plenty of cap space but whatever.

The best thing about Matt Read was a few years ago when someone posted a Flyers lineup using only nicknames and used the most appropriate nickname for Matt Read: Matt Read.

He was a good linemate for Couts for a while and was a decent penalty killer. Just couldn't play consistently at the level he needed to.

.... helped the PK enough to convince Ron that it was trending higher.

Matt Read was awesome. Overrated when he arrived, underrated towards the end. Hopefully he goes to a team out West.

Read would get a shot the same way Bardreau would have had a shot this year if he wasn't injured, Hextall likes well marinated two way players on the bottom six, unlike Leier, Read could score and PK as well as skate.

Read does show the dangers of age for players with limited talent, those age decline curves are skewed to the more talented, players like Read only have a 4-5 year window, from about 24-28, by 30 they're often out of the league. But for those seasons he was a solid 3rd line forward.

Hope he lands in the NHL during the off-season. Guys of his standing don't necessarily get offers. In all likelihood would have to take a 2-way deal that still pays him pretty decent in the AHL. And probably with a team that do not have very many prospects and would allow him to get playing time. Minnesota might be a good landing spot.

Played well after his callup this season. Steady, reliable, disciplined.

If I read his stats correctly (and got the math right), over his career he has averaged a minor penalty every ten games. That’s discipline.

He should be able to find a job next year as a 12th/13th forward.

Good player for us, should probably be on the roster next year from a talent standpoint, but won't because of the cap hit of other players.
