How could all of you fail to notice the brilliance of his logic?

All the owners had to do to get the best deal was appear disorganized, divided and unsupportive of their bargaining stance.

I mean really, it's as a plain as day that the NHL could have greatly benefited from having this intellectual giant running the show instead of toiling away at ESPN.

Unless the Wings or Avs are playing then Thorne becomes unbearable.

He hasn't pronounced Dale Purinton's name right ... ever. (Not that Dale's any good anyway).

When the '98 Wings handed the Cup to Marty Lapointe, Thorne opined that "Claude Lapointe ... he had a great playoff ..."

Do most of you hate that article because the way it was written, or is it becase his opinion differs from yours? A lot of people sound pissed off just because his opinion differs, and if he wrote an article like that slamming the players everyone would be creaming their pants at what a "great read" it was.

We hate the article because ESPN is usually the last place to look for thought-provoking articles on Hockey.

But yet half this board holds Fishler as one of the best writers in history. You hold ESPN as the standard for journalism with his articles, but you denouce Teri Frei. Frei knows more about hockey.

the rollback was on all player salaries for the length of the contracts, not just for this year

Boatloads of players have no contract or are on the last year of a contract. To all of those players, losing this season is a 100% "rollback. Any player on a 2 year deal just took a 50% "rollback" by losing this season and players with 3 years left on their contracts just took a 33% "rollback". Those few players with 4 years still left on their contracts just took a 25% "rollback". The measley 24% doesn't look like such a great deal afterall, certainly not worth dumping an owners cost certainty demands and starting up a season. It was never a serious proposal, just a PR stunt.
