Retired wide receiver Terrell Owens, soon to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, wants to return to the field.
Owens, 44, activated a procedural window that requires the Edmonton Eskimos -- who own his CFL rights -- to offer him a contract or release him from their exclusive negotiation list within 10 days.
Jason Staroszik, a Canada-based agent who is representing Owens on the matter, said Owens "100 percent" wants to play football again at the pro level.
"He wants to play in the NFL," Staroszik told ESPN. "But if he can't, the CFL is the next-best option."
The news was first reported by 3 Down Nation, a CFL-focused website.
There is no known interest among NFL teams in Owens, who last played with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2010. He played briefly in 2012 for the Allen Wranglers of the Indoor Football League and then went to training camp with the Seattle Seahawks that summer. The Seahawks released him Aug. 26, 2012.
The Eskimos have until July 24 to decide whether to offer Owens a contract or relinquish his rights. By CFL rules, a contract offer -- even if it is for the CFL's minimum rookie salary -- would allow Edmonton to retain Owens' rights for another year.

T.O. eyes NFL return, open to playing in CFL

If he wants to come back even if its the CFL they should rescind his induction. Youre supposed to be retired and its the Pro Football Hall of Fame not the NFL. To be honest though if they did that he wouldnt get in. I dont care about his induction stunt, he has the right to do what he wants. Several people are rubbed the wrong way by it though. Im stunned he got in the hall. He has the stats but his character is off the charts. The hall is a special club. Theres enough WRs. I dont think adding him was a necessity. Hes already making them regret it and hes not even enshrined yet.

Funny though if they actually sign him his first game would be the same night as the Hall of Fame Game. The irony.

What does this have to do with anything? Mario Lemieux had his waiting period waived to get into the hockey hall of fame and he came back like 2 years later. No one seemed to care.

And of course another crappy hot take artist (like the majority of your former opinions) who believes he doesn't deserve to get in because of being a headcase. He didn't rape somebody, he didn't murder someone, he wasn't even a heavy drug user/drinker. He just talked. A lot. He absolutely deserves to be in and i assume anyone who thinks otherwise is an old coot/parrot looking to defend "muh integrity of the sport" and has no actual knowledge of what constitutes a hall of famer.

Next thing you know this guy is gonna tell him he can’t mess with “his legacy” and needs to just stay home to “preserve it.”

he was quirky and had a lot of interesting momentsbut hall of fame has more to it than stats. He wasnt held back for years because he didnt have them. Why does he have to be in the hall of fame? He doesnt. Nobody has to be there. Its not a god given right, its a privilege.

Except it doesn't. The whole damn point of it is to honor the greatest players to ever play or in some cases induct players that you can't really tell the story of the NFLs history without. (Namath) Most players worthiness is determined on guess what? Statistics. In which TO has more than enough to be deemed a hall of famer.

It is a privilege, and Owens has earned the privilege to be enshrined with a stellar career. I don't give a rat's ass if he was a diva. Players in the hall have done far worse already so to keep a guy out for ****talking teammates would be hipocracy at its finest.

Your Namath point proves my poiny. Hes the WORST QB in the hall of fame. He threw more picks than touchdowns. He certainly wasnt enshrined for his career stats or if he was Ryan Leaf deserves a slot at that rate, even Tim Tebow and Johnny Football.

What on Earth are you on about? TO belongs in the HOF, kudos to him for not catering to the halfwits that slammed him for the duration of his career, the guy is true to himself, and not a hypocrite, which is a quality a few have in pro sports.

Doubt any NFL would want him.

Feels like he's just trying for his last 15 minutes of fame.

Im not sure doing something like spiking the star is being true to yourself. If it is he has issues just like Baker Mayfield who put the flag on the Ohio State logo. Theres no need for actions like that....or in Bakers case grabbing your croch.

I wonder if any other team takes a look at him.

I could see BC or Montreal looking at it just in an attempt to sell tickets. Lord knows Montreal can't get worse at this point.

Terrell didn't show enough respect to rich old white guys who own the league and most of the media.

Esks drop Owens from their negotiation list

https://www.tsn.ca/eskimos-drop-owens-from-negotiation-list-1.1144288

Don't know why they put him on there in the first place.

Likely they thought someone might give them an offer for him (even if it was just a 6th-8th rounder). Neg list spots are free and teams have a lot of them. Someone neg listed the guy who hit a 50 yarder in that Safeway kick for a million thing the first year it was on. That tells how much those mean lol.
