This edition of the Chicago Blackhawks Top 20 ranking includes a handful of new names, led by 2014 first-round pick Nick Schmaltz debuting in the second spot behind incumbent top prospect Teuvo Teravainen.

Despite Kevin Hayes not being signed by the August 15th deadline (and subsequently signing an entry-level contract with the New York Rangers), the Blackhawks will reload with a bevy of college hockey players on the verge of breaking out in 2014-15.… read more

Not at all surprising, but I always enjoy reading posts about this kid's upside. :)

Robin Norell not being in Chicago's top-20 is a glaring oversight. He's a top-12 prospect for them right now. Of all the Dmen in Chicago's system, I think he'll have the strongest career outside of Johns.

His skating, hockey sense and defensive ability are all very strong. He won't be a big point producer, but he's just going to be a really, really solid player.

McNeill's offense has a much higher ceiling than Danaults, and quite a few other prospects. That could be why he is higher on this list.

I'm with massivegoonery, I like this list more than our own.

I'm hoping the Hawks make me tune up at nights looking for streams with dead awaken eyes and cursing the sleeplesness on the following day.

I agree, McNeil seems content with Rockford IMO. Danault is a similar type of player (two-way, bottom six, pk), but seems to put forth more effort into his play.

From the few times I've seen these guys play, they play a different game. Danault always seems to be hustling and on the puck, while McNeill picks his spots (hence appears lackadaisical at times but that can deceive; doesn't mean he isn't intense, perhaps just smart). I like Danault now, but how each style translates to the NHL will be interesting, assuming they both make it.

I guess everyones putting their top 20 list here...

1. Teravainen
2. Schmaltz
3. Johns
4. Dahlbeck
5. Morin
6. Clendening
7. Hartman
8. Danault
9. Hayden
10. McNeill

20. Calnan

Not including Raanta or Runblad. Dont care what HFs criteria is. Teravainen is everyones consensus #1. After that arguments can be made for most ready prospect, highest ceiling, lowest floor, most complete game.

I like Anthony Louis. Size challenged and long shot to make the show but besides Teravainen, Louis, Motte and Hinostroza are probably the top 3 for skill. Not surprising Louis Motte and Hinostroza are also smaller sized players and will need to overcome size issue. I can see them easily making it to Rockford but beyond that remains the question. Also like Svedberg and other prospects not named on the top 20 list.

Agreed, there are a couple of others that are right around that #20 mark or could be argued to be just inside that top 20. Olofsson is another one for me.

All the Swedish D look absolutely fantastic so far. This staff hasn't missed on a Swedish D yet. Dahlstrom, Dahlbeck, Norell, even Press.

Whoever is doing the scouting for the Hawks is really good at there job.

You don't actually have to scout Swedish D these days, you just pick guys randomly and 90% of them become awesome. :sarcasm:
