Went to the Hurricanes game tonight. It was a strange experience, kind of preseason-ish.

The single weirdest (and most annoying) thing is that they pipe in a very low level of crowd noise to prevent the arena from being totally silent during boring stretches of play. Imagine a white-noise machine that operates just at the edge of your hearing. Annoying.

No temp checks or anything like that. There’s a pre-screening form you have to fill out, so may as well call it an honor system.

I carried a bottle of hand sanitizer to use after touching railings etc. To be honest that’s the only way I can see the virus spreading in that environment, unless it’s just hanging in ambient air or something. You really are distanced from other people and everyone has masks, so unless you’re licking doorknobs or something it should be fine.

This makes me wonder if it's a league wide thing. I didn't go but my friend who went to both Devils home games this week had texted me this...

First game back with fans on Tuesday...

"The fake noise is brutal. I can barely hear my gf next to me and the music is even worse. So loud. It's so loud in here I can't hear the whistle."

Tonight's game...
"The fake crowd noise is much better tonight. Somewhat noticible but not overbearing."

I was kind of curious what the fake noise sounded like in-arena. Turns out it sounds bad, that’s what.

This is a total guess, but I can see how maybe they had it cranked up for the no-fan games, and it took a game’s worth of negative feedback for them to realize they needed to turn it down.

To me it’s just annoying to have a nonstop buzz playing just barely at the edge of your hearing. It’s comparable to having a tinny noise from an ear infection... after nearly 3 hours you’d just rather not.

Maskless fans in the arena. Oh goody, lets spread it to the players real quick so we can suspend the season. True fans.

“Allegedly”

I mean... it’s right there. Of course they did.

What’s really weird is that they chose to buy this image from Getty and photoshop it, when they could have just taken a suitable photo in their own building.

Or just further crop the image like they did at the top there.

What if players in the states become eligible to recieve the vaccine during the season? I've heard of quite a few side effects that would hinder their performance and it can last for days/weeks. I don't think the league is interested in delaying anymore games nor continuing unvaccinated if there are supplies ready for their players.

The mask policy is enforced however if someone took a photo of me between beer swigs, it would look we were going rogue at the game.

We could open up to more fans without any issues in my experiences.

Kakko should be eligible. Not sure if he got it though. I’m assuming he did not as he was on COVID protocol.
