i've pointed out before that the keenan flyers' top four of howe-mccrimmon/crossman-marsh all ended up on the red wings in the early 90s.

mcrimmon in the '91, '92, and '93 seasons

marsh and crossman joining him from the end of the '91 season through the end of '92

howe in his last three seasons: '93, '94, and '95, ending his career with a third SCF loss subbing in for mike ramsey for a couple of games in the sweep to new jersey

which means that the team that lidstrom and konstantinov walked onto as rookies had fellow youngster steve chiasson, the marc-andre bergeron before marc-andre bergeron yves racine, and 3/4 of keenan's defense corps

then those guys were all scrapped for their former hall of fame alpha, mark howe, who was soon to be joined by another hall of famer in paul coffey, and eventually also slava fetisov

--

later, four of the toronto top six that pat burns took to two campbell's finals ended up on the late 90s wings.

bob rouse spent four seasons on the wings, playing in three finals and picking up two cups, before finishing out his career in san jose

macoun and mironov were deadline pickups in '98, joining rouse to help the wings to the cup; macoun played one more season before retiring while mironov signed with washington that summer

poor todd gill was picked up on waivers midway through the '99 season, so he overlapped with macoun a bit; he signed with phoenix that summer but went back to detroit as a deadline pick up in '00 and lasted one more season before moving on the avs, exactly missing detroit's cup windows and jumping on the colorado bandwagon at the worst possible time (hello paul, teemu)

in that post-konstantinov '98 cup run, the defense corps was three hall of famers (lidstrom, fetisov, murphy), anders eriksson, and half of pat burns' early 90s d corps.

i'm not sure what the point of this thread was other than i find this weird. like imagine if next year tampa decides to cut bait on stralman, girardi, and coburn, and fill out their hedman/mcdonagh/sergachev/cernak core with alex edler, chris tanev, and dan hamhuis? that would just be weird right?

The 1969 St. Louis Blues went in heavily on Montreal Canadiens defencemen. Of the top six defencemen on the team by games played, three (Harvey, Talbot, Roberts) had spent most of their NHL careers in Montreal.Picard's limited NHL experience came exclusively in Montreal. This situation isn't particularly odd though given the recent expansion.

The 1995-96 Flyers had ex-Montreal defencemen Eric Desjardins, Petr Svoboda and Kevin Haller on their roster. Interestingly, Montreal traded Svoboda to Buffalo for Haller in 1992. Philly acquired Haller in the summer of 1994, Desjardins early in the lockout season of 1995 and Svoboda at 95 trade deadline.
